zero limit Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I just got my bps catalog in the mail and seen the trade in deal for feburary. anyone know how it work's? do all trade in's get the same value? it said up to 100.00 on some. thanks dennis Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 29, 2009 Super User Posted December 29, 2009 The trade-in value is determined by the cost of the new reel purchased. For the past couple of years, Shimano has not participated in the exchange. 8-) Quote

Super User Goose52 Posted December 30, 2009 Super User Posted December 30, 2009 My new 2010 catalog arrived. What did I miss ??? A rebate ... how do I find that? Take a look at page 6 of the catalog - near the left edge - Reel Trade-Ins Feb 26- March 3. I have never participated in this program and can't speak to the specifics of how it works. I think if you show up at a BPS store during that time period, and buy a new reel - they will give you some level of trade-in allowance on your old reel. Quote

Super User roadwarrior Posted December 30, 2009 Super User Posted December 30, 2009 The deal is based on what you buy, not what you bring in for trade. 8-) Quote
zero limit Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 So all trades are the same no matter the value. the more i spend on the new reel the more discount i'll recieve Quote
shootermcbob Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Not sure about the numbers exactly, but it goes like this no matter what reel you trade in: If new reel cost is rebate is 100 to 149.99 20.00 150 to 199.99 30.00 200 to 249.99 40.00 250.00 and above 50.00 again, not sure about price ranges or rebate amounts, but rebate is based on cost of new reel purchased, not what reel is traded in. Super User Goose52 Posted December 30, 2009 Super User Posted December 30, 2009 I'm not sure I want to drive 95 miles one-way to my nearest BPS store, but I do have 2 Shimano B-Mag reels that are 25 years old that I could trade in : Quote
shuddyssoup Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Same thing I was thinking Goose. I have two older BPS reels that are worth more in a trade in than selling. Plus, it would give me the oppurtunity to visit the Bait Monkey Superstore ... Glad there isn't one closer !!! Quote

I think you are right on as far as the price ranges and trade in value. I know the BPS here was only taking reels in working order also at one time. You bring the reel in and they give you a voucher that you present once you go to check out to get your discount. I did it last year and may trade up again this year for a new reel. Quote
twors Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 At my local BPS, they normally have a huge box full of new cheap spincasters for like 5 bucks which you run through the check out with, grab the rebate ticket and go buy your new reel. IIRC, these traded in reels go to a youth program and they would prefer a easy to use spincaster over a baitcast or spinning reel. Quote
bowfish12 Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 Just make sure the reel you bring in works( the handle turns, and the push button works)- these reels are given to charity for kids to use. The voucher will start at $5 for a reel somewhere in the $40-50 range all the way up to any reels over $500 will be $100 off. Quote

Given the additional information posted above, it sounds like I would be better off selling my Shimano B-Mags on eBay - they've been going for around $20 or so... Plus, not sure the kids would want to learn fishing on a 25 year-old baitcaster (although if you really crank on the magetic brake, you can cast these reels pretty well without backlashes). Quote
