Ojurb Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 if you had to choose between an Abu Garcia silver max or a pinnacle inertia finnese what would you choose? also any info on the walmart abu garcia ambassadeur tournament grade rods? they dont have them on the website Quote
ksbasser Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Go with the silver max. Plenty of places work on abu reels if you need service, which you should get them serviced once a year. Plus Abu will have parts available for that reel if it ever needs them. Quote
Bass XL Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Go with the silver max. Plenty of places work on abu reels if you need service, which you should get them serviced once a year. Plus Abu will have parts available for that reel if it ever needs them. Well put sir. Quote
The Rooster Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Between the two, I like the Pinnacle Inertia best. Don't know how they will hold up in the long run though, nor do I know about the Silver Max either. The Pinnacle just feels best to me in hand at the store. Quote
Ojurb Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 so i got 2 for the abu and 1 for the pinnacle the pinnacle doesnt have a flipping switch, but has more bearings other than that they share similar specs, i dont know what to get Quote
Ballpark Frank Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Abu Garcia. I have 2 Pro Max, 2 Silver Max, and 1 Black Max. I like them all. For inexpensive reels(cheap is a different category), they can't be beat. I also have a Pinnacle Solene and a Platinum Plus; they are good reels but something in the gears I just don't like. I haven't taken them apart yet, but the Abus just "feel better". I have a few higher end reels as well, but for the money the Max series are great and Abu Garcia service is top notch. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted December 28, 2009 Super User Posted December 28, 2009 I used a silver max all last season, and it was pretty descent for the money. I will say, however, that it did like to be lubed often (like after every time out), or else it made some funky noises once in a while. I still have it, and will keep it as a back up for my jig rod. Ojurb Posted December 28, 2009 Author Posted December 28, 2009 well i ended up getting the silver max at walmart, along with an abu garcia tournament grade 7 'mh rod from there as well as my first baitcasting set up, i had a gift card for wally world and got some zoom trick worms in june bug and black and some bullet weight and some 3/0 worm hooks, i was ready to spend the $60 they cost at walmart but they had one of the silver max with a tore up pack that was taped up for $45 so i got that one, got everthing for $90. lets see how i like it good thing about getting this from walmart is that i can return it if i dont like it and decide to get something lse i can just use my credit for hooks and end tackle and get a rod and reel from somewhere else Quote
The Rooster Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 good thing about getting this from walmart is that i can return it if i dont like it and decide to get something lse i can just use my credit for hooks and end tackle and get a rod and reel from somewhere else This is true. Walmart is good for some things, but anymore when it comes to fishing gear I don't think they even compete. Lures are ok but lacking in selection, just the bare basics only and only have half of those. Rods and reels are mostly sub par but once in a while you'll find something fair, decent, or even good. angler1 Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I would get the garcia reel. I have 5 of the revo-s models. Remember, you get what you pay for. The revo-s is 130 at cabelas but you can order it from dicks on-line for 109. If you order it from dick be careful what you choose in terms or right and left hand. The revo-s in left hand is Revo S-L. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 IMO, Go with the ABU for the availability of parts, service and upgrades as well as initial quality. Bearing count isn't everything. Quote
WoolleyBass Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 ABU. I have a black max and used all last season without a glitch. Roby Quote
SWMIBASSER Posted December 29, 2009 Posted December 29, 2009 I'm not knocking the Abu reel at all. But I think it's always good to buy the best you can. With that money I would try to find a deal in the flea market area. I bought a Revo S that was honestly fine to fish with as is for $45 shipped. Quote
Ojurb Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 well i ended up getting the silver max, fine reel , after my first 5 cast resulting in birds nests ( good thing i was watching bass edge and they show the tips on how to get them out with out having to cut the line) i adjusted the reel properly avoid them then i was just plarcticing casting and retrieving fast and caught my first dink lol i was just retrieving and boom i had a fish on, the reel does cast really well i still have to practice my aim more but all and all im happy i whent for the abu. plus the one i got was cheaper than normal so yeah im happy Quote
Ojurb Posted December 29, 2009 Author Posted December 29, 2009 i may retunr the rod and get a Berkley Amp, the Abu rod from walmart is really heavy and tires my hand easily , it may also be that im not used to holding the rod in my left hand Quote
barroncooper Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 I know that academy had some shimano cruxis' on sale for 39.99. good reel imo. aluminum frame, HEG gears. and smooth as silk too Quote
Ojurb Posted December 30, 2009 Author Posted December 30, 2009 Barron we dont have academy here in florida and Dicks is the store that carries the best selection of fishnggear near me, i went there to look at the berkley amp rods, i decided to go to the one in brandon hoping they would have the 7' version that they didnt have in the wesley chapel one when i spot an alll star select with an abu garcia revo s mounted on it, except this one wasnt the same rod that their revoS/all star rod combo normally has, this one looked like graphite and had orange accents, instead of the black green from their normal combos i had seen, i picked it up and it had a price of $169 on it but then had an orange sticker that said sale, but the price had been ripped up, i took it to the counter and asked for a price check, the guy there told me it was $59.97, i asked why this one was different price that the green ones and he told me that it must be last years colors, so they go on sale once the new colors come in i took it and walked directly to the register and bought it, its a medium heavy 6'6", i wish it would have been a 7' but i cant complain, basically i got a revo s for half the price and a got a free all start rod to boot, needless to say i came home and grabbed the wal-mart abu rod and the silver max and returned it. the revo s and the all start select rod cost me less than the abu rod and silver max i had bought at walmart..lol.. almost $20 less. so if you guys have Dicks around you hit them up and see if they still have any of these 08 revos/all start combos around Quote
