Dixon Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Just bought a 7 6 crankin rod but what reel are you using. Cranking 15 to 25 feet. What gear ratio are you guys using? Guy at bass pro told me 5.4 to 1 or lower. This true. Quote
flippin and pitchin Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Dixon, He was right ! If you value your wrists you will run a power gear ratio. Several manufactures have 4.8 to 5.4 to 1 models. I bought a Revo Winch and love it. It's great for big spinner baits with large blades too. Read Tackle Tour's review. Happy New Year Quote
topwater.va Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I would agree. Use something that has a 5.1:1 ratio or something like that. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted December 27, 2009 Super User Posted December 27, 2009 I really like my curado 200e5 for deep cranking. Quote
Al Wolbach Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I am very happy with a Revo winch for deep cranking......................Al Quote
bmadd Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I've always used a 6.3:1. Deep cranking is something I get to do a lot of on Kentucky Lake and I have yet to notice any real fatigue from using that ratio. Maybe I'm still young but I like the faster line pickup. I like being able to really dig my lure in and to also to catch up with a fish if it starts swimming towards the boat. Quote
SDoolittle Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I'm using a Chronarch 100bpv. I believe it's a 5.1:1 ratio. Quote

barroncooper Posted December 30, 2009 Posted December 30, 2009 I got a curado e5 for xmas and I think that it's almost too slow. I do some deep cranking and would like more of a usable ratio. just found out that the citica 6.3:1 gear set will work. plus I don't notice too much difference when fishing dd22's between my 5:1 and curado and 6:1 calcuttas Quote
