maineman Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 50 dollar gift card at bass. pro. what reel would you buy? Quote
SWMIBASSER Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 I know most won't agree with me.....But I would try to find a Pro Qualifier or even the JM spinning reel on sale. I don't care for them, but my brother has used an Extreme for a couple years. Uses it a ton. No problems. And the bigger spool really does cast farther and reduce line twist/management problems. The pro qualifier and JM might be more refined feeling than the extreme. Never inspected or used them. The second choice would be a Pflueger President. Quote
Sherlock 60 Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 The Daiwa Regal-XiA is a great spinning reel for $49.95. Quote

flippin and pitchin Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Pflueger President. Save a few more bucks and get the XT. Much nicer handle. Quote
central.PA.bass Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 Abu Garcia Cardinal.. These are pretty much all I use and have never had a problem with them.. My favorite one I have had for at least 6 or 7 years and its a workhorse! Sometimes you can find them for under 50 so you can get some other goodies from BPS. Quote
Super User bilgerat Posted December 27, 2009 Super User Posted December 27, 2009 http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_58697_100001002_100000000_100001000_100-1-2 And you still have $10 left to spend. I've owned one for going on three years and have fished it hard. It's a great reel for the money. No matter where you read the reviews they are overwhelmingly positive. Quote

Maybe it was the Exceller I had heard good things about. It was one of the Daiwa spinning reels without the airbail. That was how it came up. The cost to replace the bail on the more expensive reels after stepping on them. (not me the guy who I heard this from) Made the Regal or maybe it was the Excelleer a good buy. Quote
I.rar Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 i bought both a 801 and a 601 but decided to keep the 801. nothing wrong with the 600 series , but the 800's feel bulletproof. presidents are another option , but those handles dont feel right after using rubber ones. Quote

Those air bail are awesome on the higher end Daiwas. This is the reason i prefer those over Shimano's spinning reels. Quote

Brute Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 Another vote here for the Pfleugar President. I've got 2 of them and have no complaints. Brute Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted December 28, 2009 Super User Posted December 28, 2009 President here too. I had one until my dad started using it, he has one too. Smoother than many other lower in the price range. And I love the handle. Quote
SDoolittle Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 I'd scrounge up another $10.00 and get a Shimano Sedona. I received a Sedona for my birthday in 1997 and that reel is still in use. Quote

Super User Goose52 Posted December 29, 2009 Super User Posted December 29, 2009 The Mitchell AvocetII is a nice reel for 30.00 x2. I bought one to keep in the trunk of my car along with a pack rod. Not a bad reel - seems pretty solid - and comes with a spare spool. There are 4 sizes available. Quote
