A-Rob Posted December 27, 2009 Posted December 27, 2009 With regards to the speed of the rod, what is used when? Am I correct to assume the speed is basically the amount of give at the tip of the rod, ie fast = flimsy ? & what techniques demand what speed ratings?? Quote

NorCalFishinguru Posted December 28, 2009 Posted December 28, 2009 If you didn't find your answer, speed has nothing to do with the power or "stiffness" of the rod. Speed only describes the rods taper. A fast action rod will bend at the tip, but have a solid backbone. A slow action rod will have more bend throughout the entire rod. It makes sense if you think about it. In an extra fast action rod, it may be thick from the butt till just before the tip where it quickly tapers off. Quote
