central.PA.bass Posted December 22, 2009 Posted December 22, 2009 Hey I was just wondering if anyone has any experience with this reel? My sister got me one for christmas this year and was wondering if anyone has used them and what you thought. I know its only a 30 dollar reel but its a shimano and i was gonna use it as my steelhead reel. I was even thinkin about maybe usin it for dropshot or something.. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted December 22, 2009 Super User Posted December 22, 2009 The reel is definitely bass and trout worthy. I don't know long term putting it up against steelhead but I reckon this is only one way to find out. That size is ideal for drop shotting and finessing out the door. Quote
central.PA.bass Posted December 22, 2009 Author Posted December 22, 2009 thats what i was thinking.. I saw that they were a little cheaper and had 3 or 4 BB... I figured it would be a trustworthy bass reel and a good enough steelhead one.. I only go for steelhead like 2-3 times per year cuz its such a long trip (3.5hrs)... But I'll see how much i like it. I use an older abu garcia cardinal that i use now for a lot of spinning applications.. maybe i will use it for steelies and keep the sienna for primarily dropshot and splitshot Quote
Super User islandbass Posted December 22, 2009 Super User Posted December 22, 2009 Cool. I imagine it is steelhead worthy. I hope to catch my first steelhead soon. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted December 22, 2009 Super User Posted December 22, 2009 Steelheading is all about drag. I use a cheap Daiwa 1500 size reel and a 10' noodle rod for the small creeks where the 13-6 is too long. Just don't push the drag too hard, and you'll be fine. Quote
