flipping reel help

i am going to buy st croix mojo bass rod 7' hvy and i am wondering what reel is good for flipping and i prefer get reel with a flipping switch so any help will be good thanks

If you are truely flipping, you don't need the flipping switch.

When you flip, you are not letting any more line off of the spool.

The more stuff built on a reel is just another thing that you could have problems with. I'm not a fan of the flippin switch or the twitching bar. Just get you a good reliable reel and get comfortable with it. You will be money and fish ahead.

The first thing you want to look for is a heavy reel. Why? I have that 7' H Mojo, and it is one tip heavy rod. It never felt right with a Revo, Citica E, or any of my Daiwa Advantages. When I finaly paired it with a Citica D (at almost 10ozs.) it seemed to balance out better, but IMHO still needs a balancing kit. In all honesty unless your going to be pulling BIG fish out of the nastiest, heaviest cover around, I would get a different rod. A 7 MH' St Croix will handle alot of flipping and pitiching situations just fine and be a lot more versitile, and more comfortable to fish with all day. About the the only thing I use that 7' H Mojo for is punching thick mats with 1 oz. + baits, and dragging frogs over top of the same stuff. It should be labled just "Slop" rod, any one who can walk a frog with that pool cue for more than 15 mins. is a better man than me.

The Quantum Accurist and Accurist PT both have the flipping switch. Last years models are pretty cheap on Ebay for both and if you use a lefty reel Quantum has them pretty cheap on their website as well

You don 't need a "flipping" reel to flip nor you need a reel with a flipping switch to flip, my old Abu XLT Plus and Black Max have the flipping switch feature and I can count with my fingers the times I 've used the flipping switch in more than 2 and a half decades of flipping and I do flip a lot in my everyday lake.

What you need is a good quality reel with a good smooth drag and more importantly a good rod to practice the technique.

A friend of mine has a Shimano Castiac that he uses for flipping. To re-engage the reel you simply flip the thumb release up with your thumb. I've used it a couple of times. It works well .

I use the quantum kevin van dam series reels. It has ten ball bearings and i love it. Bass pro has it on sale now for 80 bucks it has a flipping button but i never use it. Ive never had any problems out of it and its not too expensive.
