MikeMc Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 so i found a great deal i couldnt pass up on one of these babies, so i bought it without ever holding one. i heard they were very light rods, so i was planning on getting a light reel for it. the rod showed up yesterday in the mail and my first impression when holding it was that it felt a bit tip-heavy. so my question is, what is a good reel to match up with this rod, and will a light reel not be the best choice because of the tip-heaviness? i was originally thinking of maybe a daiwa fuego, or a abu revo premier, or a light shimano. any help?? thanks Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 I have this exact same rod, which I thought was slightly tip heavy as well. Therefore, I paired it up with a Daiwa Zillion. The weight of the Zillion made it a little more balanced, but I didn't like the overall weight of the combo. I then put a Daiwa Fuego on it and it was much better. Even though there is a slight tip heavy feel, when you have a light weight reel on a light weight rod, it is not that overwhelming. I have a Shimano Core 100 MgFV on it now and I couldn't be happier (though, I realize a Core on any rod will make for a great combo) Quote
SWMIBASSER Posted December 2, 2009 Posted December 2, 2009 If you are using it for contact baits you could always balance it with the BPS balancing weight. It looks hideous but to me, I prefer the balanced feel when fishing jigs more than I care about how it looks. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 2, 2009 Super User Posted December 2, 2009 I have mine saddled up with the Curado 200E7. This is a match made in heaven. Plus, the colors are complimentary! 8-) Quote
Super User SPEEDBEAD. Posted December 2, 2009 Super User Posted December 2, 2009 Revo STX on mine balances nicely. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 2, 2009 Super User Posted December 2, 2009 Revo STX on mine balances nicely. Agreed! I started out that way then swapped the STX to a MBR844C just for cosmetics. I like the green on green (BCR & Curado). To take it one step further, I spooled the Curado up with PP which really looks cool! 8-) Quote
