central.PA.bass Posted November 27, 2009 Posted November 27, 2009 hey all, I am debating on which rod to pick up after Christmas. I have decided on a Powell Max Casting rod.. the models I am looking at are a 705c, 704c, and a 703c... I fish a lot of grass and structure but i wouldn't call it "heavy" structure.. ie. artificial crates and boxes in the water, occasional trees and stumps. I fish in central PA so its not like we have 6+lb bass swimming around at will... Im planning on using this rod with texas rigged senkos and jigs... Any suggestions? Oh and I will have the rod paired with a Revo of some sort... either S, Sx, or STX with 15-17lb Fluoro.. Thanks for the help Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted November 28, 2009 Super User Posted November 28, 2009 I would say go with the 704c. It's a great all around rod for t-rigs, c-rigs, jigs, spinnerbaits. I have the 705c and it's better for heavier cover. Quote

bandsr4me20 Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 703 or 704 is good. I have both and they work good. Quote

Yeah I was leaning towards the 704... most of my rods are MH and i dont even think i have a heavy rod besides my flippin stick... thanks for the input.. what do you consider heavier cover just out of curiosity? shimanogloomis man Posted November 28, 2009 Posted November 28, 2009 704 i have it i would rate it in power between the mbr 844 and my bcr 854 Quote
Bayou Bass Posted November 29, 2009 Posted November 29, 2009 What size jigs? I had a 703 that was great for senkos, but was a touch too light for larger jigs. I really liked it for T-Rig with 1/4oz weights. Quote

I wouldn't go punching thick mats with the 704c but for most applications it's the way to go Quote
