Lucky Craft Man Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 Besides the smaller handle and the "v" spool, what is the difference between the 103SHA & the 100 SHA? I am going to get (actually, my wife is getting me one as a Christmas/Valentines Day/Anniversary Gift) a Steez to match up with my BCR893 for senkos and was wondering which one to get. Thanks for your help in advance. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 The difference is gear ratio. The 100 is 7.1:1 and the 103 is 6.3:1. As far as which one to pick, that's just personal preference. I've never used anything as fast as 7:1. Good luck. ML Quote
TheHammer84 Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 The 100 holds more line than the 103 (20 more yards of 14# test) at the cost of 0.1 ounces. The difference in gear ratio is in the lettering. HLA is 6.3:1 and the SHA is 7:1 If you use heavier test line (like 20#+), I'd go with the 100, otherwise the 103. Quote

fathom Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 the 100 and the 103 both come in either 6.3.1 or 7.1. the main difference, imo, is in the braking...simply put, the 103 uses magforce v...the 100 uses magforce z. volumes have been written about the difference but, in plain english, the 103 is a pitching machine and, in my hands, handles the lighter baits better...one of mine is matched with a bcr803. with heavier baits, the 100 gets the nod...and is matched with a bcr804. that doesn't mean you can't put a 100 on an 803 or vice versa...it just means i prefer the 103 on the 803 and the 100 on the 804. ymmv. steezy Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 I own the Steez 103SHA, 100SHA and the 100HA. They ALL use the same brake system , Magforce®-V. The HLA is the left hand version of the 100HA & 103HA. Theres NO left hand version of the SHA. Specs (model, ratio, linecap): 100HA 6.3 14/120,16/100 103HA 6.3 12/120,14/100 100SHA 7.1 14/120,16/100 103SHA 7.1 12/120,14/100 If you are planning on a GLX rod, for close to the same $$$ you could put that steez reel on a steez rod. It makes for a sweet combo. Quote

In my opinion, the Steez is smoother operating and has a more solid precision feel than the Core 50. The core is still and great reel and a great vaule for the price. I recommend a Core 50 on a Loomis GLX rod and A Steez on a Steez rod. BTW, the Core 100 weighs 6.1 oz, Core 50 5.5 oz. None of the Steez reels weigh more than 5.7 oz. Bigs Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 for what the steez costs you could get a daiwa pixy instead from japan and supertune it to pixilla specs. There are several on ebay right now. That reel will perform as good if not better then a steez. And end up costing you less too. Just some food for thought. Quote
Lucky Craft Man Posted November 26, 2009 Author Posted November 26, 2009 I appreciate all the responses. As far as the Shimano Cores go, I have 4 Core 100MgFV and 1 Core 50mg. These are definitely great reels, but when I tried out my friends Steez, I was really blown away. I just wasn't sure what the differences were in the models. With everyone's help, I am pretty clear as to the variation in the different models and I appreciate everyone's help. PS I would go the Pixy route, but I am a little shy of buying anything that doesn't come with a warranty of some kind. Quote
fathom Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 certainly not disputing anyone's word here and this may be a matter of semantics more than anything else...but, the 100ha's i own carry the standard magforce z spools. the 103ha's i own carry the magforce v spools. can't speak to the 7.1 models. steezy Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 OK, I'll bite. fathom, what identfier should I look for on the spool? According to daiwa customer support, all steez reels use the Magforce®-V braking system. I will be calling them back on Monday. Quote
fathom Posted November 26, 2009 Posted November 26, 2009 the rotor on the 100ha spool is thicker with a straight edge. the rotor on the 103ha spool is thinner with a tapered edge. again, this is probably a matter of semantics more than anything else...the models i own may be a tad older than yours. Whats the line cap of the pixy compared to the steez ? I dont think the pixy will hold as much line or as heavy a weight of line as the steez. 100HA - 14/120,16/100 103HA - 12/120,14/100 100SHA - 14/120,16/100 103SHA - 12/120,14/100 Quote
