Super User Redlinerobert Posted January 11, 2008 Super User Posted January 11, 2008 Hey guys, Hey guys, who makes good nets? I'm surprised I've not found someone online that makes really nice ones, perhaps wrapped like a rod or what have you. Any leads? Quote
Super User Micro Posted January 11, 2008 Super User Posted January 11, 2008 Is there such a thing as a really nice net? Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 11, 2008 Super User Posted January 11, 2008 I HIGHLY recommend a rubber net. This will get you started and then maybe you can find someone to add the bling-bling! http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_30227_100011006_100000000_100011000_100-11-6 Quote
dale Posted January 11, 2008 Posted January 11, 2008 Ditto what RW says. The rubber net is great because it weighs enough that you can leave it lay in the floor of your boat with out having to worry about it blowing out even at 70 mph. Quote
Super User Micro Posted January 12, 2008 Super User Posted January 12, 2008 I used a rubber net for awhile and they are HEAVY. I switched to a similar sized net with a smelt-bag (much finer mesh). It will net the biggest LMB, and it will not tangle, and it's a fraction of the weight. On those occassions small shad are schooling near my boat, I've even been able to use it to dip them. I still have my rubber net for stripers and cats. Quote
Super User Tin Posted January 12, 2008 Super User Posted January 12, 2008 Whats a net? I thought you were just supposed to flip them in, or if they are a little too big, lip them. Quote

FHUAngler Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 EGO Nets makes a really nice net. I got one and I really like it. Very ergonomic. Google it, you'll get their website. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted January 12, 2008 Super User Posted January 12, 2008 Heavy? Wassup with that? I won't blow out of the boat, but I don't think "weight" comes into play when in use. This is for a boat, not toting around on the bank. Quote

This is for a boat, not toting around on the bank. OK, Hulk. But some of us normal guys think holding a rod with a fish-on in one hand and a big rubber net in the other while leaning over the edge of a boat gets a little dicey. You got a partner doing the netting, that's another story. Quote
bmadd Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I've been able to net my own fish while keeping it hooked up in the other while in a small chop in a 18' boat. It's not that bad at all. I can't imagine having a net with mesh and trying to get a hook out of it. Quote
Super User Micro Posted January 12, 2008 Super User Posted January 12, 2008 Only occassionally has that been an issue. But a wider mesh net cures that problem with no weight increase. Quote
Super User Alpster Posted January 12, 2008 Super User Posted January 12, 2008 Whats a net? I thought you were just supposed to flip them in, or if they are a little too big, lip them. With arthritic hands like mine (can't pick my nose without poking my eye) if a fish is large enough to break the line or a rod tip, I will use a net. On topic, I use a short handled nylon net I bought at WalMart. Works like a charm. Ronnie Quote
Low_Budget_Hooker Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 With arthritic hands like mine (can't pick my nose without poking my eye) Ronnie True, I've seen it. ABC123 Posted January 12, 2008 Posted January 12, 2008 I tend to use a glove with "gripper's" molded into the palm most of the time. 2 reasons: 1) We have Bullheads up here, getting stung by them SUCKS!!!!! 2) Handling fish with your bare hands is not the best thing for the fish. Otherwise, Cabela's sells some nice net's. I do have a nice Frabil net with a rubber coated nylon net. The handle slides up into the net and makes it fairly compact. Cabela's offers one that goes a step further. The handle slides up into the net area, then the frame folds in half. Nice net, but I didn't care to spend the $70 or $80 for it. Stowmaster is the brand, Bass/Walleye-72", 20" x 24" hoop (10" x 34" stowed) is the specs on the one I would have got. The also have nice travel bags for them, for when they are folded up. Here is the link...if it works. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat20166-cat20186&id=0022997016581a&navCount=2&podId=0022997&parentId=cat20186&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat20186&hasJS=true Bungee cording a net into a rod holder will keep it in the boat while under power. I have an upright rod holder for keeping unused, but might be needed rods, that could double as a net holder. Quote
lowe160 Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 I got the Stowmaster for Christmas (great wife) and is very well made and worth the money if you are serious about fishing. I like because of the compact size in a Lowe160. JMHO Quote
