newfish Posted November 17, 2009 Posted November 17, 2009 I'm interested in a abu round reel with a bait clicker. I know that the newer reels in the 6000s and up have bait clikers but i've also heard that some older smaller round reels were produced with bait clickers also...I was wondering if this was true? I've tried searching the web but came up with nothing. I'd appricate any help thanks in advance. Quote

I don't remember seeing any....But you might be able to pull parts from a big reel and swap them to the smaller one. I think all the baitclicker components are in the palm plate. Quote
Clyde Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Its not an abu but the mega cast round reel at bass pro has a bait clicker and is a good reel for fishing with live bait. Quote
oldschoolbasser Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Most Ambassadeur reels in the 6000 Series came with clickers, and a few in the 5000D Series as well.Depending on the model you're interested in,you can change out the side plate to one with a clicker.I've done that on a few reels that I've built for friends who fish for catfish. The Rooster Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 5600C4 Elite came with a clicker. I had one in the late 90's that I bought just for that reason. It was chrome and dark blue in color, had a thumb bar release, 4 bearings, was a smooth and sharp reel. Newer models of the 5600C4 that are gold and blue do not have this anymore. Here's a link to download PFD formatted reel schematics for Abu Garcia reels. You can open the models up that are in the 5000 range and look at them to see which ones have the baitclickers. http://www.pursuetheoutdoors.com/fishing/reel-schematics/index.php?dir=Abu+Garcia%2F Quote
newfish Posted November 21, 2009 Author Posted November 21, 2009 thanks for the replays and help. the reel (5600 c4 elite) rooster mentioned seems like the reel i'm interested. did it come in a left hand model and are the gearing interchangeable to a 5:1 gear ratio? i was also wondering about one of the new abu reels and switching out the side plate to one with a bait clicker, but was wondering which way would be easier and cheaper to do? kikstand454 Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 man..... had you posted this a month ago..... the abu garcia black max series round reels... the older ones.. had clickers. i used them for a year or two for saltwater use. they were great. i updated all my stuff though and gave them away. i had 4 or 5. id have givin you one. :'( they are good reels... solid nothing at all fancy about them. sometimes the levelwinds on them were suspect. if you can find one cheap id pick one up. http://cgi.ebay.com/BLACK-MAX-ABU-GARCIA-3-BB-FISHING-REEL-ALUMINUM-FRAME_W0QQitemZ290371307774QQcmdZViewItemQQssPageNameZRSS:B:SRCH:US:101 that is a metal one.. the ones with the plastic sides had the baitclicker on them.... good luck Quote

You can swap gears between c4 and c3 models. You can also upgrade the C3 to C4 specs by adding an extra bearing. I would go with a newer reel if I were you. They have instant anti reverse, and I don't know if the bearing quality was improved but the newer reels feel smoother to me. Do you have to have the 5000 series reels or are the 4000 series an option? Quote
The Rooster Posted November 21, 2009 Posted November 21, 2009 It was available in left handed models. 5601 C4 Elite is your left handed model. It only came in 6.3:1 ratio but you could convert it if you wanted to. I had a 5.3:1 ratio reel here that I was going to do just that to........however I boneheaded mine up and got the pinion gears mixed up as I took them apart so I ended up putting the reels together with mismatched gears and when I cranked it I immediately felt the grind. Too late, damage done, so take care NOT to do what I did when you swap out the gears. If I had not messed it up I'd have a nice 5.3:1 ratio reel with the smaller spool I wanted and with a baitclicker as well right now. I sold them in a yard sale later. They both still worked well and were solid when I sold them (I switched the gearing back the right way) but you could feel the sandy gear meshing due to the "accident" they had. That grinding feeling is something which I cannot stand in a reel but apparently others can, they sold quickly. I got good money for them used. Sold one for $20 and one for $25. The Elite was 8 years old when I sold it. When it comes to reel repairs and maintenance I had nobody to teach me so I learned on my own. Made some mistakes but got it right finally. Costed me 2 good reels back then, but you live and learn. : Quote

If your interested in used, I've got a few I would sell....I've got a couple non instant anti reverse 5500 c3's and two 4600 c3's. One of the 4600's I've taken the time to super tune. Quote
