First fluorocarbon

I have never used fluorocarbon as a main line and I am going to purchase my first spool. I am going to use it in my 51mg, what line do you guys recommend?  What diameter should I get?

In my experience, P-Line, Seaguar, and BPS all work well. I'm sure the Trilene is good stuff but it's also very pricey. 12# is the size I use most often for worms, 20# for jigs.

ok... i also have been very impressed wioth the berkley 100%.... but i have a question for everyone... not meaning to hijack the post.... but what is the word on stren flouro?  its on sale stupid cheap here at sports authority and i just want to know if its worth it.

scared to use it though cause of bad flouro exp. in past..... just now trusting the berkley.

What is the word on the seaguar invizx and abrazx? Are they better than the berkley 100%?

I've been using BPS flouro with real good luck. Whatever brand you settle on, I would highly recommend spraying it with KVD Line&Lure prior to each use. Flourocarbon is quite stiff compared to mono and the Line&Lure will really make a difference in it's manageability. Spray it on the night before so it has time to dry for maximum effect.

For a core 51 mg, p-line cx prem 12#, I use it on most of my core 50's.

I used the 100% Flouro and had major problems with line twists and tangles when using a weightless rig. On a spinning rod. In 10lb test. Also had one backlash on a crankbait rig and it was so tangled I couldn't pick it out and gave up.

Otherwise it did fine. Even still I'm switching back to Y/Z Hybrid. No hassles with it. In my experience.

My line of choice would be the berkely 100%.  I don't use a lot of fluorocarbon because I never found a need to have something that abrasion resistant.  I use berkely trilene 10lb.  It's strong enough, and pretty abrasion resistant.  But for the purposes of the thread, I would get the 100%.

Usually, the line twist is the error of not using a swivel...  Next up is the baitcaster...  I personally have never ran across that kind of issue with any line...  Usually the easiest way to remove it, is to let the reel do the work, and use pressure of your thumb, and reeling a bit to allow it to remove it.  Then you want to click the thumb bar, and try stripping it out of the reel, until its removed.  It happens to everyone, but sometimes it can't be fixed that way. User error strikes us all!

The most manageable fluorocarbons are Seaguar Inviz-X, Berkley 100%, and Sunline Sniper.  Out of those, the Berkley Pro-Grade stretches less, and has significantly better abrasion resistance than the aforementioned lines.  However, going on pure limpness.....the Sunline Sniper is the softest out there.  It behaves like Trilene XL.

What kind of life-span does Fluoro in general and Sniper in particular have. At those prices it would break my budget if it has to be replaced too often. I've never heard of a 100% fluoro line behaving like XL. That would be very cool. 8-)

Whatever flouro. you use, Line & Lure will help to extend the life of it. Unlike other products which are oil based and just coat the line, L&L is a water based polymer and actually bonds to the line. This coating can only come off by friction and will wear before the line does. I used the same BPS flouro. the first part of this year with no problems and only re-spooled as I was concerned about unseen knicks in the line. I'm in the same boat as a lot of people with the high cost of flouro. I try to make it last as long as I can.

Fluoro is unaffected by UV rays and doesn't absorb water so lasts much longer than mono.  I cut off a few feet after a trip to make sure there's no frayed line at the end, but other than that, I use it until the spool gets too low.  If it gets too much spool memory, run it off the reel and stretch it, and it will respool like fresh line.  If you're an Elite Pro and get it for free, change it every day!
