zelmo Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 I am thinking about getting a Fuego to put on a Loomis SBR812. I don't have any Daiwa reels so I don't know what to expect. How will this set up work for tossing 3/8 and 1/2 oz spinnerbaits? Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted November 7, 2009 Super User Posted November 7, 2009 Too slow for my taste unless you're just slow rolling your spinner baits. JMHO Quote
Super User Raul Posted November 7, 2009 Super User Posted November 7, 2009 Fine reel for spinnerbaits, 28" IPT, not "too slow" really, actually 2" IPT faster than my regular spinnerbait reels ( Curado 200, Chonarch 100B, TDZ103H n ' such ). Quote
21farms Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 i have lots of reels to choose from for my loomis SBR-813C and the fuego is my choice. i think the IPT is perfect for the way i fish spinnerbaits (burning them just under the surface)...not too fast and not too slow. tosses 3/8 oz. to 3/4 oz. spinnerbaits just fine. very smooth and the magforce braking system on the fuego is effective and reliable. the combo feels great together. Super User Raul Posted November 7, 2009 Super User Posted November 7, 2009 Red reels on GLoomis Merlot rods rock ! Quote
21farms Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Red reels on GLoomis Merlot rods rock ! yes, yes they do. how they match colorwise is a happy coincidence for me as i was focusing on what worked best for the way i like to fish. i didn't think too much of it until two different guys i fish with commented on how purty it was Quote
Super User Raul Posted November 7, 2009 Super User Posted November 7, 2009 Look at it these way, function over look is more important ..... but it don 't hurt if it looks good ! Quote
zelmo Posted November 7, 2009 Author Posted November 7, 2009 Thanks. I couldn't hope for a more knowledgeable recommendation. What line do you have spooled on that Fuego? Quote
uicdent11 Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 I never fished my Fuego specifically with spinnerbaits, but I liked 12# YoZuri Hybrid. 10# didn't cast as well as 12 for me. Quote
Super User Raul Posted November 7, 2009 Super User Posted November 7, 2009 Thanks. I couldn't hope for a more knowledgeable recommendation. What line do you have spooled on that Fuego? That would depend don 't you think ? If you are going to fish heavy weedy cover 14-17 lbs test would be fine, heavy woody cover Yozuri Hybrid or CXX 12-17 lbs test. If your going to fish little or no cover then 10-12 lbs test will suffice. Quote
21farms Posted November 7, 2009 Posted November 7, 2009 Thanks. I couldn't hope for a more knowledgeable recommendation. What line do you have spooled on that Fuego? that's 15# yo-zuri hybrid in smoke color which i really like for spinnerbaits. i normally prefer fluorocarbon but haven't found that it doesn't make much difference when it comes to spinnerbaits, and the difference in price is significant. zelmo Posted November 8, 2009 Author Posted November 8, 2009 that's 15# yo-zuri hybrid in smoke color which i really like for spinnerbaits. What is the advantage of the smoke color? One reason I started this thread was this customer review on the BPS website: the only problem i have with this reel is that if you use it for anything that requires constant cranking like throwing a spinnerbait it will wear you out because it makes a 1/4 or 3/8oz spinnerbait feel like you are throwing an oz or more. Any idea what he is talking about? Quote

Any idea what he is talking about? the color of the line you choose should depend on the color of the water you fish. smoke is just a better match for me but clear or green might be better for you. as for the second part of your question, i can't really figure out what that reviewer is trying to say. the only thing i can think of is perhaps he is used to fishing with an ultra-low speed reel with more torque? otherwise, he may be confusing the role of the rod versus the reel. Super User grimlin Posted November 9, 2009 Super User Posted November 9, 2009 Whoever wrote that review is a retard...You can always tell between somebody's review rather they know what they are talking about or not. That guy obviously doesn't. Mine gets used for almost everything from spinnerbaits, jigs and T-rigged soft plastics. I use 14# test Trilene XT in green. Quote
zelmo Posted November 9, 2009 Author Posted November 9, 2009 Thanks for all the info. Someday I will realize people spout off without even knowing they are clueless. BTW - I know what line I will be using, I just didn't recognize the smoke line on snoop2's reel. Quote
Super User Gone_Phishin Posted November 10, 2009 Super User Posted November 10, 2009 I have a tuned Fuego on a 5'9", MH, XF LTA. I use it for spinnerbaits and topwater work as well. I am quite happy with the reel. I have no problems with 3/8oz blades. Quote
