Buckeye1955 Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 MattLures Bluegill Series 5 inch, 2 ounce, Realistic Bluegill Swimbait Anybody have an opinion on these. At the price they are going for, I'm not trying them on a whim, that's for sure. They look good, but that might be the world famous Bait Monkey calling...... What part of the country have you fished them? Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted January 1, 2008 Super User Posted January 1, 2008 My Opinion: They are awesome. I fish them in California, but there are people all over the country hitting big fish for their region on these baits. I always have one tied on during the spawn. Quote
Randall Posted January 1, 2008 Posted January 1, 2008 Its the best bluegill bait made . I have fished them in GA where we have plenty of big fish and in the mountains of Western NC where the fish on the average are much smaller. As long as you have bass and panfish they will work. I have won several tournaments fishing them and my biggest bass weighing 15lbs 12oz was caught on one last year. I fish them by swimming them and by using them like a jig on the bottom. I consider them very affordable for a quality made swimbait. Quote

Super User Gatorbassman Posted January 2, 2008 Super User Posted January 2, 2008 The first picture is of Randall and his 15lb 12oz monster. The others are of my best friend Adam (Doghouse). Only one of them were on the bed. It's the one that has the lure hanging outside its mouth. The last two were prespawn, caught deep on a creek channel. Quote
Mattlures Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 Man you guys just put a big ol smile on my face Thanks for the kind words!!! Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted January 2, 2008 Posted January 2, 2008 I see the pics of these monster bass being caught on this bait, but my question is do you think a 2-3lber can take this lure? Or is it too big? The ponds im fishing, majority of the fish are 2-3lbs with a few 4s and 5s lurking about (just not many). But I'd like to use it on the 2-3lbers that spawn also. So what do you say, can a 2-3lber fit this lure in its mouth? Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted January 2, 2008 Super User Posted January 2, 2008 The others are of my best friend Adam (Doghouse). Are there fish in those pics? I'm blinded by that obnoxious shade of red Quote

BassFishingMachine Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 So no one knows if 2-3lbers can take this lure? Quote
Super User fourbizz Posted January 3, 2008 Super User Posted January 3, 2008 i've had countless 2-3 lb fish CHOKE that bait. Quote
Mattlures Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 yes 2 and 3's can take the bait no problem but why would you want to target them. I am betting you have bigger fish than you think you do. They are just hiding from you. Quote
Buckeye1955 Posted January 3, 2008 Author Posted January 3, 2008 I hope so! I mostly fish the Ohio River and a few surrounding lakes. Sometimes get over to Stonewall Jackson. Other then Stonewall, a 3 lb bass makes the paper! But I also hit the St. Johns river in the spring and Lake Champlain in the summer. I figure the bluegill will be a big hit at Champlain and the perch might stir up a hog down south. It would be nice to have a slightly smaller version for us bass challenged areas Matt! Can't wait to get my order....... Quote
LCpointerKILLA Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Well I ordered last night for overnight priority off of tackle warehouse. Should get here tomorrow. I ordered a baby bass mattlures in largemouth pattern, and I ordered a bluegill in the tilapia pattern. I figured the tilapia pattern would be great because just about every lake I fish is infested with tilapia, especially around the shore. Sometimes you see and hear a whole bunch of them dart away, and it makes a bunch of big splashes, that's because Ms. Bass is sweeping through the area! Next time she will be biting my new swimbait. P.S. Chris at Tech, did you watch the Sugar Bowl? Quote

Can't wait to get my order....... have you ever seen anyone tossin a swimbait in those waters ???? if not you may wanna ,, there could be 5lbers in there or even bigger ... most big fish eat little fish .... just a thought ,, you may wanna toss a baby bass or gill see what you can do .... Super User roadwarrior Posted January 3, 2008 Super User Posted January 3, 2008 Some people probably think the Baby Bass is too small for a "swimbait", but I can assure you, it is NOT too big! Quote
Buckeye1955 Posted January 3, 2008 Author Posted January 3, 2008 I'll definitely give the ultimate bluegill a try in the old Ohio river, but we're pretty bass challenged in our area. Too much industry and not enough structure. And too much fishing pressure for what few fish we have. And the lakes are even worse other then Stonewall. One weekend at a lake just north of me there was 7 tournaments going on at the same time........ The grass did come back to the river this year which helped. At least that gives the bait fish somewhere to hide! Quote
