Craiger12 Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Was wondering what after market upgrades you guys have made to your Curado Es. I'm thinking about upgrading my E7 this offseason and was wondering what was available and what would be worth spending the extra $$ on. Been looking into the Boca Orange Seal bearings (pretty pricey for the 7s). Are these worth the $$, and would only replacing the spool bearings sufice? What other bearings can be replaced and how will this increase performance? Sorry for so many questions at once. Thanks in advance to all who contribute. Quote
KSRonH Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Why not post your question on the Shimano product support forum? Quote
The Rooster Posted October 21, 2009 Posted October 21, 2009 Why not post your question on the Shimano product support forum? No offense meant to craiger12 but I would agree with the quoted statement above cause if there's one person here who would know what upgrades you could do to that reel, it's Bantam1. He's the guy to ask for sure. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted October 21, 2009 Super User Posted October 21, 2009 I would say there are none it is a great reel, service the reel and you will see it's full abilities then. Quote
Super User Raul Posted October 21, 2009 Super User Posted October 21, 2009 The first upgrade I would do to it ---> have it dissasembled, cleaned degreased, deoiled, then reassembled & oiled, why ? cuz Shimano packs well with grease their reels for storage right out of the assembly line, the difference in performance between a right out of the box reel and a right out of the box professionaly cleaned reel is quite noticeable. Craiger12 Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 I have read about the benefit of cleaning and re-lubing shimano reels and had planned on having this done. Can you guys recommend a person/place I could send my Curado to have this done? About how much will this cost me? Quote
Craiger12 Posted October 22, 2009 Author Posted October 22, 2009 Wow that was fast. Thanks guys. Quote

Right on the money. I got a new Curado this year; my first Shimano baitcaster in many years. I always fish a new reel for a couple of days before opening it up. Had an issue with a Shimano a few years back, and learned this lesson. The new reel was nice right out of the box. Even better after a complete tear-down, clean and lube. The new Curado is a very nice reel. An excellent value. This from a long time Daiwa fan. Craiger, why not do it yourself? You have all winter. May as well give it a shot. It ain't rocket science. Bronzefly Posted October 23, 2009 Posted October 23, 2009 I agree that a breakdown, cleaning, and re-lubing is a great way to start. A set of quality spool bearings is the only other "upgrade" in my Curado Es. The Boca OS are very nice - but as you said, pricey. The Big Green Fish SS ABEC 7's are quality bearings at a very good price. I have them in my Curado Es. On the drag system, I have developed confidence in the stock dartanium drag. It has proven itself worthy in my book so I leave it alone. Quote
