burce Posted August 6, 2009 Author Posted August 6, 2009 The Citica is the best available reel for less than $150. YOU GUYS ARE SO CONFUSING! what should i get!?!?! for less than 120 Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted August 6, 2009 Super User Posted August 6, 2009 The Citica is the best available reel for less than $150. She man O hype and total BS, left out a few ABU round reels and a Pfluger , not to mention some of the REVO line upand the Diawa Advantage, which frequently can be found right around the 150 mark C'mon.... We've had this same thread a few times every week ever since we both became members! No point in getting worked up or beating up on anyone. To the original poster: There is no "best", just "favorite". I'm a Shimano guy and I would recommend the Citica, too. 8-) Quote

I'm planning on using your guaranteed bass catching strategy later tonight, I can't wait. as for my other questions - what type of line and test should I pick up for it, and should I keep my 6.5' shakespeare intrepid rod? rubba bubba Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 what should i get!?!?! for less than 120 In that price range this board is pretty evenly split between the Citica and the Revo S. The Shimano guys are probably a bit more vocal since they had to listen to the pro Revo guys for sometime now. One has a few more bearings than the other and they both have centrifugal brakes. If you can go to a place that has both, check them out and get whichever one you think feels/looks better. Ignore the retail pricing as they are noticeably cheaper online. Quote

ChiCityBasser Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 The New Accurist isn't bad and is 8.1oz and only $99.99 on Cabelas site but probably not in yet since its a new model Quote
Super User Muddy Posted August 6, 2009 Super User Posted August 6, 2009 Hey if you act fast there is a used CURADO on the flea market for 60 bucks!! It's a She man O , but thats a good deal in your price range Quote
Bassin for Walleye Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 The Citica is the best available reel for less than $150. x2 x3 x6 x7... IMO Quantums are heavy paper weights... Citca x1,000,000,000,000,000,000! The Citica is the first bc reel I ever got and I love it. It did take a while for me to get used to it but I'm glad I did. It is a smooth reel and works great with braided line. I cast, flip pitch. It's a great reel Quote
endless Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 hey burce, what rod you going to use? or are you going to try to use your spinning reels rod?? or do you have another rod for the baitcaster?? i myself just got into baitcaster and my first one is the bps pro qualifier. it is 99.99 and 189.99 for the combo. i have yet had any problems with it rod or reel. Quote
bassmasterb007 Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 if you get a bait-caster you are going to need a casting rod.your spinning rod will work but i have broken a few spinning rods with bait-casters on them.they are designed different. Quote
Bigs Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 The Citica is the best available reel for less than $150. Heck no buddy. You can get a brand new in the box daiwa sol or fuego for around $145-155 shipped. Tons of no reserve auctions for these all the time. These are $250 reels we're talkin bout. The sol is all aluminum, not just the frame and the fuego is magnesium!! A new fuego just went for $147 on there, I was at the lake and got home about a half hour late and someone beat my bid by 3 bux to win it > These are even nicer then the curados that sell for 200 bux and blow away the citica for just 30 bux more! My buddy has nothing but curados and I have thrown them, they dont even compare to the sol or the fuego, it's not even fair to compare them infact. If you feel like waiting a week for an auction to complete then be patient and get a pro level reel for cheap. But whatever you do don't waste a dime at any store like dicks or bass pro, they sell everything for retail or right under retail. Been there done that. Just my 2 cents, good luck. Quote
Super User CWB Posted August 8, 2009 Super User Posted August 8, 2009 The Citica is the best available reel for less than $150. x2 x3 x6 x7... IMO Quantums are heavy paper weights... Citca KVD must not have a clue. Check this out. $20.00 rebate to boot! http://www.***.com/descpageRLCABUGAR-AGRSTX.html BPS Pro Qualifier is $99.00 and frequently goes on sale. (See Evers Below) No question Shimanos are great reels but they aren't the only ones. I got 2 Accurist PT's on sale at BPS earlier this year ($47.00) and they are among my favorites. Seek and ye shall find. I tend to pay attention to what the pros use. Sure they are sponsored but they can choose their sponsors. None of the top 5 finishers at the Classic this year used Shimano. Skeet used Abu, Ike used Daiwa, Snowden and Evers used BPS and McClelland used Quantum. Maybe Shimano doesn't offer sponsorships but if it was me and there was that much money on the line, I'd use my preferred reel, sponsorship or not. JMHO Quote

Yes. It was the new low profile pro qualifier reel with a black metal flake paint scheme on a house rod for $100. BPS sells a couple different versions of the PQ rods and reels. There's the silver version of the reel that retails for about $100 and the matching PQ rod that goes for about $140, and then there's the "Pro Qualifier LTD" which is a completely different animal. They're typically offered as a combo around the holidays, and imho, is really just a classic case of bait-and-switch. They know people will recognize the PQ name, see the low price, and jump on the "deal" thinking they're getting a $200+ combo for <$100, but that's not the case. This has been discussed many, many times on the BPS forum. Quote
Zilch Posted October 6, 2009 Posted October 6, 2009 x9 I just got a Citica 200E today and this thing is a work of art. I can't get over just how small the thing is. I've been using a Quantum Energy PT for a couple years now which is also a great reel. However, this new Citica is just an incredible value. Heh, I thought I got ripped off for a second. It's so small I thought it wasn't even in the box. Quote
