Which Powell Baitcast Rod?

I'm looking for to add "ONE" more casting rod & thinking of a Powell.  

Which Powell casting rod do you own & what do you use it for & how do you like it?

Do your Powell compare to what other rod mfg?

I have the following:

683C - all purpose rod

704C - spinnerbaits through cover

705C - pitching plastics in cover

735MH - frogs

765MH - flippin' heavy cover

766H - punching mats & swimbaits

I love everyone the same! Well the 705C a little more. They are extremely sensitive and powerful rods. They are IMO, the best rod in their price range! Closest manufacturer i would compare them to is Kistler. The Powells are lighter and more sensitive though IMO!

I have two Powell 704C's.  I wish I had one more of these.

 

I use them for all different things, depending on the season.  Right now, one has a spinnerbait tied on and the other has a 3/8 oz. jig tied on.  

They fish a 1 oz. Carolina rig nicely.  I also throw Texas rigs on them as well using 3/16 oz. weights.  They are good for this too.

They are a fantastic all purpose rod.  Do not let the heavy power fool you.  They have a pretty forgiving tip that allows for easy casting.  They also have lots of backbone.  In a touney earlier this year, I basically skidded a 3.8lb bass across the water and into the boat.

I fished a 705C for a little bit and it has all kinds of backbone.  I would recommend this if you want a flipping rod.  

They are surprisingly light and sensitive at their price point as well.

I don't think you will regret giving Powell a try.

There are starting to be a lot of Powell users on here.  They will chime in with their own favorites.  Let me know what you pick.

I have:

683c: Gen purpose

704c: Spinnerbaits

735c: Frogs

I fish a lot of frogs, and imo the 735c is the best frog rod on the market.  It has an XF tip to help you sling it, and enough back bone to pull a toad out of some seriously thick cover.

Powell is definitely one of the top rod's. I have fished, Falcon, Loomis, Kistler, Dobyns, Phenix, All Star, Shimano and a few others.

Powell is definitely my 2nd favorite rod type, following Kistler. For the price, they can not be beat.

Okay, I'm looking at the 683, 6'8" MH Powell rod.  

I went on the Powell website & it does not say what kind of guides are on the Powell bass rods.

Also is the reel seat a Fuji ECS?

The guides are Fuji Alconites.

I am fairly certain that reel seats are ECS.

The 683C is the next rod on my purchase list.

If you don't mind, you should give us a review when you get it.

It seems to have all what I'm looking for especially the Fuji ECS reel seat.  I have a Falcon Cara 6'10" MH finesse jig rod & it has the ACS, nice but not as comfortable as the ECS.

Glad to know it has Alconite guides.

I have a Shimano Cumara 6'8" M/XF, 1/4-1/2 oz b/c rod, I wonder if the Powell 683C MH is stiffer?

Never fished that specific Cumara.  I would guess though comparing to other Cumara's that the powell is probably slightly stiffer, not by much though.

I have used that Powell though I haven't fished that same cumara, I would be willing to bet that it is stiffer than the Powell.  The Cumaras have very fast worm/jig type actions where the Powells have a more "all around" action.  You will be very happy with the Powell.

How does the powell rods compare to loomis imx rods in terms of sensitivity and power? I am asking is because they are the only rods I have experience w/. Thanks

I have seen and held the mojo bass jig n worm rod, wasn't thrilled with the sensitivity.

It is absolutely not like the Powell 683c. Completely different actions and backbones.

If your looking for a Powell I'd recommend the 704c for weighted worms and jigs / pitching / c-rigs.

If you want to take it a step higher go with the Dobyns 704c for the same applications with much greater sensitivity and balance.

I just wanted the powell b/c I need an all around rod too i have. Two citicaE201s My rods are gl3 6ft and the mojo bass. looking at maybe a 683 and 703/4

I have a sahara 3000 and 6'6 exfast spin outfit too. But I fish from a kayak

and have a three rod limit any suggestions?? anybrand is fine 8-)

Have a 683. Excellent rod for the money. Broke one....excellent warranty service. Get one.
