KSRonH Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 I am looking at buying some new rods. what do you think of Allstar? Looking at the platinum or asr lines. They seem like a good rod for about $100. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted September 30, 2009 Super User Posted September 30, 2009 I don't have much experience with them but from wat I can tell they are a bit heavy Quote
TxHawgChaser1 Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 I've got a Team Allstar IM 10 med heavy on my revo stx reel.......... really nice rod.....great feel.......is a tad heavy and I don't quite like the feel as much as the Carrot Stix but its very good for the money.. Quote
ALbasser Posted September 30, 2009 Posted September 30, 2009 I don't have any experience with the Platinum or ASR, but I have an American Classic and I love it. My uncle uses the ASR exclusively, so he must like them. Quote
Super User Redlinerobert Posted October 1, 2009 Super User Posted October 1, 2009 All Star rods were my favorite rods, back in the late 90's. I still have them. Their Titanium rods are a bit on the heavy side... Quote
bigtimfish Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 Allstar makes good rods for a decent price. Most of my saltwater rods are Allstar. I will tell you that a med action can handle some big redfish with no problem. And I have yet to catch a bass that fights like a redfish. Quote
Super User Catt Posted October 1, 2009 Super User Posted October 1, 2009 I recently when looking for a rod specifically for a backup that would be kept in my rod box incase God forbid I break one. After careful consideration I purchased an All Star Pro Series PR826C 6' 10 Medium Heavy Fast and brought it to the camp. As luck would have it I broke an eye on my light jig rod so I changed it out with the All Star and was highly impress with sensitivity and back bone. The only complaint I have is the handle is a little longer than the rod it replaced which I have decided is a help when laid against my forearm when setting hook in deep water or grass. Quote

Catt, it's called a hacksaw. Use it and reinstall the end cap. LOL. Quote
Super User flechero Posted October 1, 2009 Super User Posted October 1, 2009 I think All Star represents a terrific value in each of their price points. Bottom line is that they are good rods. Those of you that say they are heavy, would you care to document the weights? Or at least share what you are comparing them to? I think if you put them on a scale, you'll see they are not any heavier than like powered/actioned rods in similar price points. I have used most of their different blanks and know that they aren't heavy compared to like blanks in different brands. And the cork is the same as the others use... the reel seats and guides are same as many others too. A gram scale will dispel this myth. Of course if you compare it to a steez or glx there will be a difference... a difference of a few grams and a few hundred dollars. I've also been through All Star's facilities and seen their build process first hand... I can confidently say they are well built... probably the best of the production rods. Quote
ncbass Posted October 1, 2009 Posted October 1, 2009 I've had AllStars for many years, and just recently began to replace them with higher end rods...life is getting shorter may as well has some really good stuff ! I still have several of the Titaniums and some will go with me to the grave. I really loved their old original spinning rods with Tennessee handles and fish yet with a couple that are 20 years old. In their day the Titaniums were the standard for a higher end rod, mass produced. For most people looking for a quality rod the Platinum or Team allstar series would be a safe bet for a good rod with available actions and the price point will allow you to own more than a couple ! Some old timers still covet their WR1 and WR2's and the Jiggin rods have a loyal following as well. Quote
