Berkley Lightning at Walmart

Just picked up a 6'6" M spinning rod at Wallyworld.  Looks like a nice rod, especially for the price.  The price tag said $19, but when the cashier rang it up it came to $36 and change.  She had a manager-type put the item through as $19.  Can't wait to try it out!

That's not a bad rod at all for 20 bones.  I got one as well that I use for bluegill fishing and it has been a tough little rod.

That's a good deal for $20, but don't count on it lasting more than a season if that.  I tried them out last year since I couldn't quite afford a higher end rod and they did alright, but the guides wore out pretty quickly on both my casting rod and my spinning rod.

I have had two for going on two years that have held up fine.  One I use for crappie and bluegill, the other I still use for bass occasionally, but it's usually what I let my wife use when we go.

I have one I bought about 4 years ago, 5'6 ml used with an ul reel.  Still looks and performs like new.  You get what you pay for, but for $19.00 you're way ahead of the game.

I use it for peacock pond action.

I still have several of the even cheaper Cherrywood rods and they've lasted for many years and caught hundreds of fish.  Your Lightning at $20 is a good buy and will serve you well.  Keep an eye out in the event there's some chance it might be nicked/scratched from Walmart's handling; and keep the receipt.

I figure it has to be an upgrade to the mid 80's Berkley Graphite that I'm still using. One thing I did notice is that the top 3 guides seem to be about the same size diameter, then they start to get larger the closer you get to the reel. They seem kind of small, except for the one at the very tip. I did keep the receipt and packaging in case I need to make a return. Hope to test it out this weekend.

I bought a Cherrywood a few years ago and it last exactly one trip, actually the first hour out with it, set the hook and it snapped in half, that's how I got my second Lightening Rod.

I've got two of em, both spinning. I ended up snapping a couple inches of each, so their 6'4" and 6'10" now.

im actually considering getting one for cranking.

i only heavy crank a few months a year and am not going to use that reel for anything else.

i figure that ive heard enough good things about them that it should last for what i want to use it for.

i havent found any other rod cept maybe the shimano convergence that is that light and stiff for 40 bucks.

and i cant find a convergence anymore.....

Why would you want a stiff rod for deep cranking?

it seems light and sensitive...i guess i meant strong instead of stiff.

for the price of course.

For the money they are good rods for sure. I purchased a couple Berkley Bionix rods (a step up from the Lightning Rod) in January last year when the Wal-market had marked their fishing rods down before this years stuff arrived. I got a few of the 6'6" med. spinning rods,  a 7 foot cranking rod and a 6'6" MH casting rod for $19.99 each and felt like I was ripping them off.

hoping that when i go to get it... they will even have the right one that i want.. and THEN pray for a sale. lol.
