Pfluger President

i was looking to get a pfluger president (president) and i was wondering if i should go with a 6 foot pole or a 7 foot pole.  im not going to be using it for any specific type of fishing.  but just curious to what you guys thought.

Without any info as to what your going to be using it for, this is a pointless question. There are pros/cons to both.

well what is the best type of fishing that can be done on a spinning reel as apose to a baitcaster?

Anything can be fished on a spinning rig.  The President is a great reel, any idea as to what size you are wanting?  the 40 is a bit big for most people, although it's my preference, the 30-35 is where most people stay.  It's very smooth and solid, IMO the best in it's price range.

i would not get the president because it has a graphite frame.i would spend a few extra $ and get the president xt which has an aluminum frame.

for general bass fishing , i dont think it would make a difference.

i would check out the 30 and 35 size as well. as for a rod , i like them 6'-6'6".

i've broken necks on graphite frame spinning reels.also when they flex it misaligns the bearings.

And also the President XT is not fully aluminum framed either. Only the neck and the sideplate are. The rest of it is still graphite. Personally I'd think that making the neck a detachable portion of the reel's body would weaken it at the point of attachment instead of making it stronger. I was all about getting one of these when I first saw them but after learning how the body was made I'd sooner opt for the traditional all graphite framed President ($60) or go on up to the Medalist which is an all aluminum frame and only another $10 higher in price over the XT ($80 vs. $90).

Go 6'6" for a happy medium since you don't know what exactly it is going to be used for. I prefer 6'6" - 7' for most of my spinning tackle.

For a general purpose freshwater reel the president fits the bill ( I just hate the rosewood handle, some like it), I have caught many a fish much larger than the average LMB on a graphite reel with zero problems.  Only negative for me is no sealed drag, but for most that's a non issue unless you're wading.

The president will give great service for a long period of time and at $60 it's a good starting point to get into a higher end reel if so desired down the road.

i have the president xt and love it. bought it with as a combo set with 6'6" pole. love the reel. but i myself is moving into baitcasters, i have two spinners and one baitcaster for now......................

I've never had a problem with the original president, I bought one with a BPS extreme around 3 years ago and bought one for my dad for christmas last year.  I can't stand the color of the xt, other than that I'm sure it's a good reel.

I like this reel. I use it for light crankbaits on a 6'6" compre. It's a good setup.

The President is a great reel.  You won't be disapointed especially for the money you can't beat it at all.

The President is a nice spinning reel. I love mine. A quality 6'6" rod (right in the middle of what you asked about) gets you a great multi-use set up. Enjoy your new rig dude!
