I made my first visit to a BASS PRO SHOP here in Orlando yesterday...was totally blown away! :) I've never seen so much freshwater tackle in my life. I bought the wife a nice Pflueger spinning combo (in pink of course). Those of you with better halfs know that you must keep the little ladies happy if you want to go out and spend the BIG BUCKS on a new baitcasting combo. Anyways, I spent like $250 just in tackle...kinda like a kid in a candy store. I'm taking a buddy of mine back there next week and buying a new rod n reel...first one since 1985 :o How many of you have been to a BASS PRO SHOP? and what do you think?

Bass Pro Shops is awesome!!! I love going there any time I can go.  They have so much stuff it's overwhelming.

Since you have a chance to go back, would you do me a favor while there?? Please look to see if they have the new Browning Maxus baitcasting reel there and then tell me what you think of it (as much as you'll be able to tell by just looking at it in the store that is).

Here's a link to it if you'd like to look at it online. It looked like an awful lot of reel for $70, almost the same reel as the Browning Midas was previously, and that reel was $150.

I'm just interested to learn about it since it's so new, seems to have all the right features, comes from a name brand that as far as I know does NOT have a bad name, and costs so little.

If you wouldn't mind to do this, I'd sure appreciate it. The closes BPS to me is a 3 1/2 hour drive and I don't have a planned trip to it anytime soon. Been 4 years since the last trip there. Thank you in advance.

I'd be glad to Rooster, looks like a nice reel with all the required bells and whistles for a good price  :)

I live about 15 miles from the Atlanta BPS, so I go fairly often. After a couple dozen trips, it's no longer exciting. For me, it's kinda like going to Kmart or the grocery store.

Been to the one in Baltimore once and Ft. Lauderdale several times. Both times I was working and my hotel was close by, so I would wander the aisles after dinner. It's neat to do a few times.

BTW, the Lauderdale one has a pretty good restaurant attached to it. I think it was called the Islamorada Fish Company or something like that.

I used to live on Goldenrod Rd in Orlando, and visited Bass Pro Shops whenever I needed tackle.

Frankly though, the BPS store was very disappointing, because they frequently ran out of stock.

Even though the BPS store was only 20 minutes from my house, I often had to go online to get the tackle I needed >:)

I seldom go, BPS does not carry too much of what I'm looking for and I don't like making that 80 mile round trip when I can have something delivered to my door.

When I drop my wife off at the FLL airport sometimes I stop in.

They probably don't carry much salt water tackle do they.

Rods and reels, yes.........lures, spoons and feathers just a skeleton assortment. Most of the stuff I use crosses over to freshwater for me, but I prefer buying saltwater because it's better on the corrosion and I think the hooks are better too. Mepps spoons are my favorite and bass pro does not carry them at all, the gold saltwater Mepps kills LMB and peacocks.

Got 2 BPS stores in the Dallas,TX metro area and 1 Cabelas.

IMO, of the 3 the Garland BPS store is the best.

I could spend hours just buying tackle.

I lived in Nashville for a year while in college and my apartment was 15 minutes from opry mills mall. Needless to say I lived at Bass Pro while I was in college  ;D Now that I'm back home I am nowhere near a BPS. Every couple of months I have to go to Atlanta for work and I always take ride to the Atlanta BPS. I have never been to a Cabelas. Hopefully I will find one one of these days.

I used to live in Springfield MO the headquarters of BPS.  The holy grail of fishing/hunting equipment.  If you ever get the chance I would take a visit, I think one could easily spend an entire day there browsing around.  Then take a trip down to Table Rock Lake in Branson and spend a few days fishing would be a nice trip.  (Branson also has a nice BPS).   Seems like BPS opens a few new stores every year.  Eventually everyone will have one close by!!!

Like bass-brat said the Cincy one near me now is not that impressive.  But it is way better than not having one at all.  And then again when you are used to being 10 minutes away from the headquarters I did get spoiled.
