Super User J Francho Posted September 18, 2009 Super User Posted September 18, 2009 And for anyone worried about a bass's teeth cutting their CXX (LMBO at this notion), here is a 37" 12-8 Northern Pike caught on a small Luck Craft crankbait. The bait was swallowed deeply, about 7" inside the pike's mouth. No leader. The line? 8# CXX. Quote
Super User Raul Posted September 18, 2009 Super User Posted September 18, 2009 I dont believe for one second braid of equal diameter has less abrasion resistance than mono/copolys. After catchin 4 or 5 bass on baits where the lure is in the fish's mouth (causing the line to rub on their teeth) my hybrid and cxx need to be retied. With powerpro its not an issue. I fish the fall line on the james alot (the rivers 400 yards across and covered in rock) with cranks and have no issues with power pro. Mono on the other hand... Look at how hard it is to cut braid versus other lines....The fact you can bite through mono with your teeth but need special scissors to cut the braid should tell ya something... As far as I'm concerned based on years of on the water experience, this simply holds no weight with me..... You are welcomed to fish at Zimapán with me any time you want to find it out on your own. Super User roadwarrior Posted September 18, 2009 Super User Posted September 18, 2009 The bait was swallowed deeply, about 7" inside the pike's mouth. Ouch! Did that turn the big girl into one of those rare subspecies, Filet-O-Fish? Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 18, 2009 Super User Posted September 18, 2009 Actually, I was able to stop the bleeding with some cola, and the fish swam away without issue. We were there all day, and we spotted it setting up on the reeds, presumably to rest. The fish looked like it would do fine, which was good - I did not want to take that smelly thing home to eat. Little axe handles caught in spring from cold streams are great eating, but big honking slobs living in the frogwater at the end of summer are disgusting. You just cannot imagine the smell. Even the blood smelled bad. Oh yeah, picked up a set of looooong pliers, and some sevenstrand. Going back tomorrow, LOL. Quote
CHEVYRIDAZ Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 That is a BEAUTIFUL fish J Francho! I have to try some of that CXX too. Quote
rubba bubba Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 How did you use the cola to stop the bleeding? Quote
ArcticCat500 Posted September 18, 2009 Author Posted September 18, 2009 special scissors to cut braid? I think not, a pair of fiskars kids scissors at wal-mart will do the trick. maybe I'll jus go with a leader....nice fish J Francho Quote
Super User J Francho Posted September 19, 2009 Super User Posted September 19, 2009 How did you use the cola to stop the bleeding? Just poured it on the source of the bleeding. Mountain Dew is the most recommended, but I've had luck with Coke, Pepsi, Diet Pesi, and Diet Wild Cherry Pepsi as well. I bet plain old soda water would work too. We used to use that to briefly anesthetize larger tropical fish and koi that needed medical attention. Quote
Super User Grey Wolf Posted September 21, 2009 Super User Posted September 21, 2009 I think I'll stick with.... Dodgeguy will puke when he see's that picture. Quote
