Sfritr Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Help! I lost two huge fish yesterday fishing jigs. I was using 50lb braid and a 12lb flouro leader. both line breaks came at the junction. I used a uni knot and coated the knot with superglue. What is the best knot for tying braid to mono???????? Quote
SimonSays Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I used the Improved Albright/Alberto knot. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 10, 2009 Super User Posted September 10, 2009 I used the Improved Albright/Alberto knot. Alberto's Knot Note: The title of the video reads "Albright Knot", but he is actually tying the Alberto's Knot which is a modification (double wound). 8-) Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted September 10, 2009 Super User Posted September 10, 2009 Why are you using such a wimpy leader? Could your knot tying technique be suspect? Do you use one of the rough surface superlines like Power Pro that have a lot of friction when tying the knots? Quote
Bob Dole Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 Thanks for posting that video, I've been using the blood knot for the past year now w/o any troubles but that one looks a little easier to tie, I think I'll give it a try. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted September 10, 2009 Super User Posted September 10, 2009 I tie the Blood Knot for all other types of line, but the Alberto's Knot I think is a better choice for braid/ leader of different size. 8-) Quote
Sfritr Posted September 10, 2009 Author Posted September 10, 2009 I had changed to the lighter leader due to the water clarity. This lake has 15+ visibility and very little cover. It has on average 2-3lb smallies and I usually fish 6lb flouro with my spinning setups as the fish are line shy. I already had the braid on my jigging rod so I just went with the lighter (longer) leader. As for the Knot tying ability, That may be suspect, hence the reason for the question. Quote
Super User islandbass Posted September 10, 2009 Super User Posted September 10, 2009 I would also recommend the Albright. It is suited for lines of varying diameters and I think your case fits that bill. I have used a braid (main) to mono leader with this knot fishing for species that would make the average bass seem small and it has never failed. With that said, like any other knot, it must be tied correctly to be effective. Sorry about losing those fish. Quote
Verewolf Posted September 10, 2009 Posted September 10, 2009 I use the J-Knot which is a variation of the Surgeons Knot. It's a strong knot and very easy to tie. I finish it off with a coating of UV Knot Sense and have never had a knot break. Quote
