Shimano Citica D or Citica E. If given a choice, which one??

I'm beginning to think I'd like a Shimano reel and the Citica is in my prefered price range of the low $100's. Question is, did they significantly improve the Citica this last time when they changed it?? Or not?? A Citica D at a bargain price of less than $100 would be nice and I'm waiting on the Wally Worlds around me to realize they are still stocking a dinosaur reel (well, the term dinosaur might be a bit strong) and put them on clearance. As it is they still sell for $119 But they'll probably not put them on clearance anytime soon, or if they do then it might not be more than $10 or so off. For that price, if the new E is better then I'd be better off going there instead.

The D is bulky compared to the E, but that might not bother me so much. Basically, which one is better, or is there really a difference aside from looks and overall size??

I like the E a lot better and have fished both extensively. Aside from being smaller, it's also lighter. It's also smoother on cast and retrieve to me. IMO it's just a better reel all the way around and cannot be beat for the money.

ive had my citica d for over 6 months.

i find it comfortable enough to fish all day. i have smaller hands imo , and its not bulky. if you cant wait any longer for the citica e to go down in price , the d is a great reel for the price as well.

I don't expect the E to go down in price, as a matter of fact if I was to go with it then I'd just pay full price and forget it.  

I don't want to pay full price on a D though since I know it should now be discounted due to the E rolling out and making the D obsolete.  The D looks like a great reel that is solid built, but just knowing that it should be less, or that I could have the "improved" version for the same money would keep me from buying it at full price, no matter how much I liked it.  And I do like it.

What's up with the new E having one less bearing than the D though??  Where are the bearings located in it??  That might be a question for Bantam1 instead.

The Citica D is a fine reel as it is, heavy, feels built like a tank, not bulkier than the previous generation other than the big bump of the HEG gear that has no impact on the wat the reel works because it hangs from the reel and "wraps" around the reel seat.

Other than weight or a smaller lower profile you don 't really loose anything if you have fished for a long time with the older 200 size reels. I 've got one and doesn 't feel different than when I fish with my old Curado 200s and Chronarch SF.

Well....it IS a tank. Not that there's anything wrong with that. Great reel if you can get it cheap (the D) otherwise I'd get the E.

My vote goes for the E. I own both and I much prefer the weight and performance of the E.

You might be able to find a used D series pretty cheap in the flea market or on Ebay.That being said, the E's are lighter, smaller and IMO just better. If new is the way you want to go then get an E.

I fish with a D all day and the weight and size does not bother me AT ALL. I like it much better than the E because of the size actually. It fits better in my hands. Size might be a problem for some, but I've never cared about weights when it comes to fishing. A few grams is nothing.

Yeah, I'd have to go new.  Never have been able to purchased used and enjoy it as well.  I have a friend who sees nothing wrong with that at all, doesn't understand why everything I own has to be new.  And he's gotten some amazing deals over the years but I never could get comfortable with the idea of something being used.  Especially with fishing stuff, so many people sell used reels and they are only a few months old but they have boat rash all over them.  I can't stand that!  None of my reels have a mark on them except the one that I scratched up some the other day cause I thought I was going to lose that fish in my avatar.......and ever since I scratched it up it's been about to kill me, to the point I've considered selling it and replacing it.

I guess you're kind of like me. I prefer everything brand new and I don't understand how people get boat rash on something they took out for a hand full of outings. My rods and reels are in excellent condition. I do purchase used reels because you can save a great deal on them. I've bought a few on this forums and they look and feel brand new and you save some good money. For rods, I prefer to buy them new. Period. But I will consider for used high end rods that are in great conditions.

I would go for the E, the last time I was at walmart in paintsville, it didn't seem as if they were going to lower the prices anytime soon, the Curado was still over $200.

I own a D and 4 days ago got an E. I have never been in love with the D, but it is a solid, well built reel that I have faith in. Now the E on the other hand, I think I like it better than my Revo's, time will tell, but it's new, give me a few more weeks with it and I'll have it sorted out.

I like the 100DSV, its almost as light as an E but I think it has a better feel. If you can find one of them for less than an E go for it.
