Mid to high end spinning rod purchase.

Ok do I've finally decided it's time to upgrade my pitiful spinning rod. So of course I'm planing to use this for light weight techniques mainly shacky head, tubes/light jigs, and senkos. I'm trying to get the most sensitive rod I can and also have good ergonomics. I have a Berkley Amp spinning that's been holding me over and I just hate the fact it basically has no grip. I'm just holding the blank which works great for me on my baitcasting Gold Carrot Stix, but on the amp after a time it's just painful. So I'm not really considering the Gold spinning rod simply because of this. Otherwise I've been so happy with the Carrots I'd get another.

Here are the Rods I'm conidering any feedback about sensitivity and conmfort of these rods from users would be great.

Powell Max Spinning Rod 7' Medium list price $140

St. Tournament Spin Rod 7' Medium list price $210

G. Loomis Spin Jig GL3 842 7' Medium list price $215

G. Loomis Shakyhead Spinning 6'10" Mag-Med list price $235 (getting out of my price range here).

Right now I'm leaning toward one of the first two.

Hey Simp! I just got a fenwick Elite Tech 7ft2in med pwr spinning rod,it's grrrrrrreat,I can feel a 3/16 wt with a Zoom 6in swamp Crawler in 23 ft of water, it's super sensitive got a light tip for throwing those tube's and other light rig's,and it's got a pwerful backbone too! good luck!   junebugmn

I thought my St Croix Legend Tournament was more sensitive than my Cumara but the Cumara is still very sensitive and doesn't have that stupid reel seat that unscrews itself as you fish.

Comon Dan tell us how you really feel about that seat. and I thought I was imagining things when the seat on a BPS rod unscrewed when I was fishing.  Sorry to go off topic.

If its a ratchet down seat then yes, and they can be quiet annoying.

but looking at them, I don't think they are the same....unless it was a specific rod that is different from the majority

bps has the best reel seats going.i've been fishing them since 1996 and never had one loosen.get a johnny morris signature series.

I have the Cumara and two of the St. Croix LTB (6' 9" and 8') spinning rods and though they are relatively similar they fish very differently.  It seems to me that the Cumaras (I have seen them all as I work in a tackle shop) are lighter than the Croixs for a common rating.........that is the M Cumara is noticeably lighter than the M LTB.  The LTBs tend to be faster actioned as well.  I like my LTB with 2-4lb heavier line than my Cumara and tend to fish them around cover and the Cumara in open water.  The Cumara is without a doubt one of the best rods I have ever fished, just not as much oomph as the LTB of the same rating...............both super, just different.

I'm sure there are those who will pooh pooh my recommendation, but I'm going to stick my neck out anyway. I have several spinning rods including IMX Loomis and Kistler Helium, but for the money, I really don't think you can find a better rod than a Cabellas XML S704-1, 7 foot Medium rod at $140.00. Before I went big time...hahahaha...I used a lot of Cabellas Fish Eagle II rods which were under a hundred each, and they did just fine. My wife decided she was going to start going fishing with me so she could be part of my life...hahahaha, again...and I wanted to get her something that would be her rod and her rod only. So I ordered her one. Sheeeesh....nice. I ordered the weight system too, even nicer. It is perfectly balanced and feels very light in your hand, casts great and is very sensitive. Laugh all you want. I ordered one for myself last week. No, I don't work for Cabellas and I wouldn't own one of their new XML/Ti rods with the "recoil" guides, heard from too many about guides eating up line, but the XMLs are a great rod at any price. You can laugh now.

Maybe you can find a deal and save a little money, but my

suggestion is to step up to the G. Loomis IMX SJR783S or

SJR843S.

I agree on the Cabelas XML rods and have several of them. I even have one of the XMLTi rods but haven't had any of the problems with the line and guides issues that some have had with the rods. I own 2 of the B/C models with the 6'6" C66WJ getting the most use of my B/C setups and it is very balanced and sensitive with my Quantum Accurist II mounted on it.  I have several of the spinning models as well and for the price they are great rods and even better when you can catch them on sale.
