Fluoro leader w/t Power Pro

Is a fluorocarbon leader necessary when fishing power pro? Will I really catch less fish if I don't tie on a fluoro leader when using something like the Hi Vis yellow power pro?

It's not always just visibility. Rocks slice through braid with ease, fluorocarbon is more abrasion resistant.

The only time I don't use a leader is when I'm fishing top water, or when fishing heavy heavy weeds.

How long of a leader do you usually use?

I use a 18-24" fluorocarbon leader.  I started this about 3 months ago, I fish mostly in a real rocky river.

There are times when a leader is a must.  I use PP Hi Vis yellow and fish clear water.  I didn't use to use a leader until 6 of us fished the same area one day when the water was pretty cold.

Two of us were using PP w/o the leader and the other 4 were using mono.  Well two of us got a good butt waxin' that day.  

Since then I normall use a fluro leader that I start out being about 4-5' long and attach it with an Alberto's knot.

I mainly use a fluoro leader because my braid is all hi-vis...yellow/red/orange.  I also like it because it keeps the cost of my braid down, to retie I only snip away at the leader instead of the braid.

Even in gin clear, I tie all my lures direct to braided line.

Under certain lighting conditions the glare of "fat" fluorocarbon is no less imposing than "fine" braid.

Among the myriad of variables that alter our fishing success, the presence or absence of a leader is small potatoes.

If the sight of braided line can spook a bass, imagine how bass must feel about the sinker, fiber weedguard, rattlebox & hook!

The more visible the line, the easier for bass to home-in on the lure

They tell you that.......................on a sunny day the clear lines will actually produce sparkles and shine/glare. They say the green tinted fluoros will cure it but i think the green is more visible!

FWIW, I use yozuri hybrid in mist green, and have fished some clear water, and semi stained...in the end, the fish still hit my bait, same goes for the clear version..

I totally agree with you there! Buck Perry advocated the same advice way back in the 60's. He thought worrying about line visibility was utter non-sense. The only time I'll use a leader, with braid, is when I'm using a very slow, on-bottom retrieve; where the fish has a greater chance of looking at the offering prior to biting. Then I'll use a short fluorocarbon leader. Right or wrong, it just gives me a little more confidence.

Switched all my line to Hi-Vis Yellow Power Pro, but now switching them all to fluoro.  I had way too many complications with tying a leader.  Too many knots breaking and in the end it was something I was not getting comfortable with.

I gave it a shot and found out I rather stick to one main line and not have to worry about two knots giving out or the leader snapping.  

Try it out and that's the best way to find out if you'll like it or not.
