I'm using an Abu Garcia silver max for reference

Typically I have the mag brake completely off, or on about 25% with very little spindle tension and I usually don't encounter too many backlashes. Yesterday I went out and I backlashed on every single cast until I had the mag brakes up to 100%. As soon as I backed it off I would backlash, even if I increased spindle tension. Anybody have any thoughts on why that is? There wasn't too much in the way of wind either.

This is only my second time out since I respooled with 12lb P-Line CXX. The first time I had a similar problem, and with the feedback I got on the message borads I took some line off the spool. It did help a bit, but hardly. I have only been baitcasting for a few months, but I am extremely confident with mono or braid. It just seems that all of my headaches started when I made the switch to p-line. I really don't want to waste all that line, but do you guys think I should make the switch back to mono or braid, or do you think it's more fundamental than mechanical?

I had the same problem.I went back to trilene XT and haven't had a problem since.  :-/  It takes some patience and practice working with the line.I apparently don't have the patience for it i guess.

Same here.  I had trouble with braid and went back to XT with no issues.  And I am using a Black Max so thats very similar to what you have.
