As most of you know, I buy and sell a few items a month to make a little extra cash. However, I'm struggling with selling these two rods. My first Loomis was an IMX 844, and my next two were IMX 843's which I used as spinnerbait rods, so the nostalgia factor is huge. I also think the 843 is the best spinnerbait rod on the planet. Whenever I find a good deal, and intend to sell it for profit...I use 'family money', and it comes out of our budget. I purchased them for a ridiculous price, but regardless, I have to look at my 'cost' as what I could sell them for. So yeah...I got a little excited and dressed them up in hopes I can keep them.  If not, I will list them in the flea market soon, and hope someone keeps them as-is so I can live vicariously through them

Just curious- when you use family money to buy do you add it back to the budget when you sell?  So the "family" budget sees that profit?  And if you decide to keep it, do you pay back the family budget?  

This is part of the reason our budget has "fun money"  which is just grown up allowance.   ;D  No house funds are used for fishing/hunting gear.

Natural, I tried your heat shrink trick last night. Covered both the cork grips on one of my glx's with some dark green. Turned out very well, looks great, fished with it this morning and it felt good.

It looks like you only use heat shrink on the upper grip, what do you use to cover the lower? Is it some sort of tape, maybe heat shrink tape?

you wrap it on top of itself. It is tacky, but does not have adhesive.

Yes, when I use family money and not my allotted spending money; the profit goes toward bills.  A couple of years ago I would have kept them without question, but with my wife in grad school..... we have student loan bills piling up.

I think the colored foregrip covers when combined with black handle wrap gives any rod an enthusiast flare. I fished with a local guy who saw my rods, and commented on them. He just assumed they were 'some special pricey rods' (in his words). After explaining what I had done, I offered to do his rods, which was only a couple. He had Castaway rods and Green Curado's, so my grey heat shrink looked great on his foregrips, and I wrapped his trigger handles in Prince Durapro plus handle grip and he was extremely pleased with the results. His Castaway/Curado combos looked sweet, and he instantly became proud of them. We all know combos you are excited about catch more fish .

WOW those are great looking rods!!!   After seeing those I'm ready to do mine!!!  That would be a good idea to color code identical rods with various differences in reel gear ratios and or actions/powers.  I'm having that trouble right now and up to this point I was considering colored tape on the shaft or a magic marker to tell the differences.  Glad I waited on those ideas, your way would be much better.

I can imagine this, instead of the jig rod or frog rod, they would be referred to as the blue rod or the green rod and the plastics would be the red rod since its the emergency failsafe setup.

The_Natural may have started a new system.

BTW, so far I like the 1 rod I did with green.

Since seeing The Natural's work on here with wrapping his rod handles, I have done it with every rod I own. I wrap the foregrips with the black wrap as well, but I may have to step up to the shrink tubing. Since wrapping my handles, I don't like fishing without them on. Thanks for the inspiration, Natural.

Also, when you remove a wrap from your handle that has been on for a while, the cork on the handle looks really good, because not only has it been protected from the elements, but the pressure of the wrap makes the cork dense with no "voids."  I sold a rod recently that I used a lot and when I took off the wrap, I was amazed how good the cork looked.  Even the guy I sold the rod to commented that I mustn't have used the rod much.
