carrothead Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 There are some Pinnacle reels at Walmart, and I've never seen them before anywhere else. Are they any good? They're in the 60-70 dollar range. Quote
aarogb Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 I had a Pinnancle reel on my flipping stick before I lost the whole setup. :'( From what I could tell before I lost it, it preformed nicely. If you had a low budget and you needed a reel I would go for it. Quote
bigtimfish Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 I did not realize Pinnacle had such high dollar reels. Quote
broncoboxer Posted August 7, 2009 Posted August 7, 2009 I use Pinnacles. They cast well. They have smooth retrieves, but they're not made of the strongest stuff in the world. Mind you, that doesn't bother me since I'm getting a lot of ball bearings for a low price. Anyway, I've been using mine for three seasons and they haven't failed me yet. Quote
S I G M A Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 I've owned 2 solenes at one point in time... broke the anti reverse on them both in about a month each. I wouldn't waste another dime on anything pinnacle... not even golf balls Quote
Daniel My Brother Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 I've been using a pinnacle extant hs metal baitcast reel for about 4 years. Casts a mile and the retrieve is smooth. I use it every trip out. Take that with a grain of salt as it doesn't really resemble any of the newer Pinnacle reels. Quote
catchbig0bass Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 Hows this I bought the platinum plus from wallmart loved it went back and got a solene and absolutly love that one too. I havent had one problem with either and am really rough on my equipment trust me. They cast great and very smooth retrieve. I say go for it trust me you wont be disapointed. as for the other guy stating that he broke the antireverse what the heck were u doing. ? I have run these since spring time ripping hogs out of deep grass and junk running every lure known and they hold up. Quote
Super User retiredbosn Posted August 8, 2009 Super User Posted August 8, 2009 I'm not a fan of Pinnacle reels, or any reel with a graphite frame, drives me nuts. The reels I've had with graphite frames tweak under load to the point that at times the gears wouldn't even engage, when that costs you a big bass, you will feel the same. Also do not expect any type of manual or take down instructions for cleaning or lubricating, I never did figure out how to take the Platinum apart. Nothing but aluminum frames, sideplates and brass gears for me. Quote

Nothing but aluminum frames, sideplates and brass gears for me. not all of them have graphite frames... like Alyssa XLT The one-piece Metal Frame and gearbox are made of die-cast aluminum alloy and precision CNC milled. The resulting rigidity of the metal frame and gearbox eliminates flex or torquing and allows the gears and other internal parts to maintain perfect alignment even under the most severe fish-fighting pressures. Our gears are individually machined from high quality brass bar stock to ensure optimum strength and the smoothest possible gear feel. Each gear is milled on our exclusive hobbing machines to ensure absolute precision, feel and durability. Pinnacle's ACB bearings are specially treated to resist corrosion during saltwater fishing conditions. Pinnacle's ACB Bearings last 10 times longer than standard non-treated steel bearings to ensure trouble free fishing in a corrosive saltwater environment. Check out our inshore baitcast and Coastal Power metal spinning reels with ACB! The level-wind line guide is a small part which often goes unnoticed ...unless an abrasive braided line cuts into it and you lose a tournament winning fish. So our Scion, Lucille, Vision, Alyssa XLT, Pro XLT and Matrix Series baitcast reels feature Titanium-Shielded Line Guides that allow line to spool on or off the reel with virtually no friction or damage, even from the most abrasive braids. Just bought a spinning combo and already have 2 pinnacles so im good for now haha. Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted August 8, 2009 Super User Posted August 8, 2009 is there much difference between "branded" reels and the pinnacles in wal-mart? Quote
Super User CWB Posted August 8, 2009 Super User Posted August 8, 2009 there are more high quality "aluminum frame and brass geared reels from them ... check the site... nice looking too Do you work for Pinnacle? ;D Seriously, I have an Extant that is probably 4-5 years old and it still performs like new. I'm not hauling in 8-10 pounders every time out either as a 5 pounder is big up here. I'm pretty hard on my stuff and it has held up well. Quote
championmayday Posted August 8, 2009 Posted August 8, 2009 I think his point was that they make some very good reels that get overlooked. I have a couple solenes and the vision XLT and I think they are the s##t myself. Quote

USMCGrunt Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I have always been a spinning reel guy. This summer I thought I would give a baitcasting reel a chance but didn't want to spend a lot of money on one in case I didn't like it. I went with a Pinnacle Platinum from the local Wal-mart that set me back I think something like $40 or so. So far I've caught a couple cats with it and a few bream in the few times I've been able to go fishing this year. All-in-all, I bought this reel as a test-bed to see if I like the design and even for a cheap reel, it has performed quite well. Sure, I'll probably get a few more higher quality baitcasting reels before next summer but that little Pinnacle turned out to be a pretty decent reel as well. Quote
fathom Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 let's just say my experience with pinnacle was less than stellar. won an xlt in a club t a few years ago...at first, i thought they were penalizing me for a dead fish. after fishing it a few times, i became certain. Quote
