What is the difference, if any, between the two? I am not really familiar with anything Loomis....

The length, the guides.

Mag Bass rods are 6 '6" long ( prefix MBR vs BCR ), guides are different also MBR rods have guides with inserts while the Jig/worm has Recoil guides.

Alrighty, so which one would be a better rod for "feel" baits?

My MBR843 is 7' long.

the bcr's are xf...the mbr's are f.

some bcr's (4 power, etc.) are listed as f instead of xf but, in my hands, are still faster than the comparable mbr 4 power.

the mbr's seem more all-around and the actions seem to fit comfortably in between the more specific bcr series and

the cbr series.

both are excellent for touchy-feely but, my hands prefer the xf over the f here...the 803 (853) is a good place to start.

ymmv.

The BCR803 feels much quicker and crisp than the MBR783 and also feels about a 1/2 power stronger than the regular 3 power. It's an AWESOME rod and performs amazingly when you need to "feel". It's sensitivity is quite ridiculous IMHO.

I compared these two side by side before making my decision and I went with the 803 GLX. Just remember to slow it down on moving baits, it's that fast but if you slow it down, plastic jerks, cranks and spinnerbaits can be used very effectively. It has A LOT of power, deceptive actually. 8-)

I just don't understand the Loomis lingo

me neither. All the numbers and acronyms mean absolutely nothing to me.

844 = 84" long (always the first two numbers); 4 = Heavy Power

(always the third number).

So, 783 = 6 1/2' (78"); 3 = Medium Heavy Power

Now the name of the different series is another issue, Power

ratings vary and Action is specific to each model. That's the

magic, they make it mysterious!

These are the easy ones:

BCR = bait casting rod

CBR = crank bait rod

SMR = small mouth rod

FGR = frog rod

CR   = casting (huh?)

and on and on...

Their "all-around" rod is the original, MBR = mag bass rod

what about suffix letters? For example, in the link that RW posted there is a MBR844C. What does the C mean?

I would give the BCR series a slight advantage because of the faster actions and Recoil guides, these increase sensitivity slightly.
