dan1942 Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 Hey everyone!! I just bought a New Daiwa Alphas R-edition last night and now I need a rod to go with it. I am looking for something Med Lt with a Fast -Xfast tip Split grip and would prefer a skeleton style reel seat and no foregrip but am still open to changes. I recently just got the new Core 51mg with a Cumara 6'8" Med/Fast which I love but wanted something in the ML range for the Alphas. Here is what I have been looking at so far Dobyns Extreme DX 702C Finesse http://www.***.com/descpageDCASTROD-DCECT.html Phenix Ultra MBX MBX 606ML http://www.***.com/descpagePHENCAST-PUMC.html Dont Laugh! E21 21 Carrot Gold Stix CRG661ML-C http://www.***.com/descpageE21CAST-E21GCC.html Ok I know there are a lot people say the Dobyns is really nice but I cant find to much on the Phenix or the Carrot stix Gold. The E21 seems to be like crack to me I know its not suppose to be good for me but I keep looking at it. Thanks as always!! Dan Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted August 18, 2009 Super User Posted August 18, 2009 There's nothing wrong with the E21 gold carrot stix. I have a 6'10'' MH paired with a Daiwa Sol that I use for jerkbaits and shallow cranks and wouldn't trade it for anything else, it does exactly what I want it to do perfectly. Quote
dan1942 Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 Hey thanks for the info! Is the 21 carrot gold rod more of a yellow / gold color like the picture or is it a neon orange like the regular carrot stixs? Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted August 18, 2009 Super User Posted August 18, 2009 Hey thanks for the info! Is the 21 carrot gold rod more of a yellow / gold color like the picture or is it a neon orange like the regular carrot stixs? depends on the lighting. It is a goldish yellow like the sol but in direct sunlight it is red. The TW picture actually shows the different hues very well Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 18, 2009 Super User Posted August 18, 2009 From that list ---> none GLoomis MBR782 IMX Why ? cuz I 've got that reel and that rod matches perfectly. Quote
dan1942 Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 Thanks for the reply raul. I took your advice and bought both (Core 51mg and the Alphas R-edition) ;D I would do the IMX but I just hate the way they look. the only other way around it is to get a custom made with that blank I guess. Super User Raul Posted August 18, 2009 Super User Posted August 18, 2009 Oh well, I do like the way the GLoomis looks. Quote
Super User .ghoti. Posted August 18, 2009 Super User Posted August 18, 2009 St Croix has just what you're looking for. Legend Tournament 6'9" ML-Xfast. It's very light and sensitive. Has a very soft tip, very fast taper, and more backbone that I expected. It has become one of my favorite rods, and my first choice for anything under 1/4oz. I have the older version, without the split grip. The newest incarnation feels just like the one I have, but looks cooler. Quote
bigtimfish Posted August 18, 2009 Posted August 18, 2009 If you like the E21 get it. I have fished them (not the gold) and I love them. I have yet to find a rod that beats the sensitivity. Honestly I got rid of mine because of the color. I just could not handle it. My dad still uses them he loves them too. Also if your looking in the pricey rod range look at American Rodsmiths Magstrike,H3 titanium, and Airrus rods. http://www.rodsbyairrus.com/ http://www.americanrodsmiths.com/Products/MagStrike/tabid/140/Default.aspx Quote
dan1942 Posted August 18, 2009 Author Posted August 18, 2009 That airrus Feather Touch T6 looks interesting. anyone here have one? Quote
Rand Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 I haven't fished the Phenix. But they are really light to hold. Bit o info Rand Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted August 19, 2009 Posted August 19, 2009 How about a Powell 702C? Costs way less than the Dobyns and is every bit as good(if not better)! Just a though for you. Quote
The_Natural Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 You might apply to be a Dobyns Pro-Staffer before you buy one. Dobyns has more pro-staff than I've ever seen...they seem to hand them out like peppermints. I think 75% of anglers that own a Dobyns are on their Pro-Staff. It's almost weird.... Quote

Super User Jrob78 Posted August 20, 2009 Super User Posted August 20, 2009 I've had my Powell 702c for about a week now and so far I love it. I have used it with weightless worms and 1/16th oz t-rigs. It is light, well balanced and very sensitive. Quote
Thefishy1 Posted August 20, 2009 Posted August 20, 2009 I have the Dobyns with me so you can use it next time we go fishing, and you have used my gold carrot. I will say that in the past few weeks of using the Dobyns, that its no comparison, Dobyns hands down. Quote
