carrothead Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 What is the best mono you can buy for the price? Big Game? Trilene XL/XT? Stren Original? Stren Super Knot? Or whatever else you recommend? Thanks! Quote
Super User Raul Posted July 7, 2009 Super User Posted July 7, 2009 For more than 2 decades I 've fish with this trio: Berkley Trilene XL Berkley Trilene XT Berkley Big Game Have tried lotz and lotz of lines and always return to those three. Quote
bigtimfish Posted July 7, 2009 Posted July 7, 2009 For a lot for a good price=Berkley big game Good mono around 300 yds=Sufix Seige I always use Blakemores reel magic when spooling line to reduce line memory. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 7, 2009 Super User Posted July 7, 2009 Suffix Siege has served me well steelhead fishing streams in winter. Many 10 lb.+ fish brought in on 8#. For bassing, I use copoly, braid, or fluoro. Quote
Super User Maxximus Redneckus Posted July 7, 2009 Super User Posted July 7, 2009 big game..never had knot failure or broke line when fishing Quote
Super User RoLo Posted July 7, 2009 Super User Posted July 7, 2009 I'm currently a braid addict, but most of my fishing years (fresh & salt) were spent fishing with nylon monofilament. 1) Berkley Trilene XL 2) Berkley Trilene Big Game If I were ever to return to monofilament line, I'd want some of the attributes of "fluorocarbon", but not too much. That is to say, I'd move from Nylon Mono up to Copolymer Mono...namely: 1) Sufix Siege 2) Berkley Trilene Sensation (formerly 'sensithin') Roger Quote
Super User iceintheveins Posted July 7, 2009 Super User Posted July 7, 2009 Orginal Stren and P - Line CX Premium. Both have good all around casting and handling along with enough abrasion resistance and strength. Quote
PondHunter Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 I was a long-time user of Trilene XL, but recently I did some strength tests and found Stren Original to hold up very well. Specifically, the clear version. Ive used braidw/flourocarbon leader and had good luck with it, but felt it was time to simplify things a bit and just use some mono instead. My gear was starting to get too complicated. Quote
stryk9 Posted July 8, 2009 Posted July 8, 2009 i use trilene xl for spinning gear and stren original for my baitcasters... Quote
Super User Jeff H Posted August 17, 2009 Super User Posted August 17, 2009 Only Berkley XT for me. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted August 17, 2009 Super User Posted August 17, 2009 I do not know about the best ,the 2 that work for me Stren Origianl Trilene XL Quote
Ldavis Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Try some McCoy Mean Green!! Strong mono with very little memory Quote
TheHammer84 Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Trilene XL Also, I guess it isn't technically mono, but Sensation. Quote
ShawnCorreia Posted August 17, 2009 Posted August 17, 2009 Oh, I know I'm gonna get nuts over this, but I think big game is cheap crap. I am not all that impressed with seige either. Stren Original is the ONLY mono woth it's weight. I have reeled in fish out of rock beds with line so frayed it looked like old rope. Stren is strong! Quote
