Good Flouro?

You get what you pay for.

For example, if Sunline cost around $20.00 it's gonna be a good line. On the other hand, Vanish is cheaper therefore it won't be as good as Sunline.

You'll probably just have to try out a lot of different brands to see which you like best in your price range.

Folks were going to have this discussion over and over again aren't we? IMHO Vanish is a good low cost line for baitcasting set ups that need 14# and over. When you get below that test pound it's usually a better idea to spend more to get a good limp fluro like Invisx or "place you favorite line here". We should all take special care in tying our knots with Fluro and checking your line often for bad spots.

I use Fluro for my flipping needs and Vanish has proven itself to be very strong. Like any fluro you just have to check for bad spots often and retie. Seriously RETIE OFTEN! Don't think your ok KNOW YOUR OK! Don't blame the line because it snapped 12inches above the knot either. That just means you nicked it on a log or rock ect and you didn't check it in time before you broke it off. Again this is refering to line above the 14lb test. IMHO it becomes very easy to break line beneath that with a good flipping rod. Trilene 100% broke off on me at the 12# level over and over again and that stuff is 20$ a box and suppose to be some of the best stuff out there.

So again when it comes to fluro retie often and carefully.When it comes to vanish I'd only use it for flipping with test pound over 14# and you should be fine. Vanish isn't my favorite Fluro by any means but I go threw a crap load of line and 10$ a box for a 250yd spool is nice. For spinning I like Invisx and Cableas fluro as well, both are made by Seagur and are great! Also make sure you pay close attention to line diameter. It's possible one line may be breaking less at a certain test pound because it's thicker. So the other line may not be as bad as you think it is but rather it should be compared against the other line at the same diameter.

Vicious is about the best flour for the money followed closely by Triple Fish but I don't fish it on spinning gear.  Of course you have to really check you line with all flouro I have tried and i think i have about covered them all if they get a nick their going to break with a heavy hookset  unlike most co polymer but then again flouro is so much more sensitive to me anyways.  THE ONLY reliable KNOT to use with flouro when using vertical baits is the San Diego Jam knot the polymer works good when tied properly for horizontal baits but not worth a darn for the hard hook sets required for single hook vertical baits I believe this is because flouro is not very impact resistant and any time the line is doubled over itself or doubled through the hook eye it will slip slightly and cut itself into resulting in lost fish.  Just my 2 cents after alot of hard-aches and research on the subject.

bps xps. great stuff. i loose less lures when i get hung up cause this stuff wont break. i end up replacing or rebending hooks.

I have 6# vanish on a Quantum UL spinning 4'8" rod.I use it for crappie.I've hooked many bass crappie fishing and haven't had any problems yet.The bass were small (10"-12").I've had a few problems with wind knots though.

I've had success with the new Berkley 100% Trilene FC - I think it's night and day difference between it and the Vanish - which I did have trouble with and no longer use.  The Gamma Edge FC is very good line as well, but it's pricey - along with some of the Sunlne stuff.  The BPS XPS FC is the best "budget" FC line I've used.

I have been using seaguar invisx. I haven't had any problems with it.

Burley...I love you buddy (in a 'good game' type of way), anyway....I know you use Pure Fishing 100% (Stren/Trilene).  Are you telling me it isn't better than Vanish?  I used Vanish for a while, and while I didn't find it to be as horrid as others claimed....it wasn't that great  :-X.  That Stren/Trilene is much better....no?!

I was a fan of Vanish until the Transition crap started. I tried the Transition (either 14 or 17#) and lost 3, 3/8oz spinnerbaits on 3 consecutive casts. After the first one, checked the line for any nicks, retied, snap, checked the line again, retied, snap. The last 2 casts with that stuff, I did not load the rod, brought the rod back, stopped, slowly brought the rod forward and SNAP! The line never broke at the knot, it was always several inches above the knot. Took the rod home and checked the guides (initially thought I may have had a damaged guide which wasn't the case). I tried going back to Vanish and started having the same issues with it as I did the Transition. I just can't bring myself to even try the Trilene 100% after the Vanish issues (no confidence in Berkley lines anymore). The flurocarbon I use now is BPS XPS. I've had no issues with it was so ever.

When I first tried fluoro, I tried Vanish. The only major problems I had were line twist on spinning rods. Now this was back when all I really fished were farm ponds and very small lakes. I've tried several different brands with mixed results before landing on Trilene 100%.

I recently used Fluro for the first time (Spiderwire Ultracast and P-Line) and will not be using the Spiderwire again.  I didn't have any problems with the P-Line, but the Spiderwire gave me fits.  I was tying a Eugene Knot that Shaw Grigsby highlighted in Bassmaster and said he uses exclusively for fluoro.  I lost two decent smallies due to knot failure with the Spiderwire and one smallie when the line snapped.  I lost a large mouth that hit a topwater (I know fluoro is not ideal for topwater).  I thought it was knot failure but my lure was floating on the surface and when I retrieved it, I saw the line had snapped.  I managed to catch that LM on a weightless Senko and he was about 1lb.  Definitely not big enough to be snapping 8lb line.
