Blaine E Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I made the transition to flouro not too long ago and my buddy told me to try Vanish. I used 14 lb and on 3 different occasions, I broke the line on small size fish while setting the hook. Has anyone else had this problem? The line was fresh and shouldn't have had nicks. What's a really durable flouro that ain't gonna cost me an arm and a leg? I really like flouro but Vanish is not cuttin' it for me. Quote
Koop Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 imo Vanish is garbage... Try some Seaguar INVIZX. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted August 9, 2009 Super User Posted August 9, 2009 imo Vanish is garbage... You're not alone on this one....the reason I don't use Flouro at all....to be honest, I don't see much difference in vanish and Berkley 100%...except price Quote

Blaine E Posted August 9, 2009 Author Posted August 9, 2009 Learn to tie a knot. Unless the line snaps at least 8 inches from the hook... Because my weight is always 8 inches and every snap was above the weight. Good call though. Quote

Super User CWB Posted August 9, 2009 Super User Posted August 9, 2009 I use Yo-Zuri Hybrid on my baitcasters and Yo-Zuri Ultrasoft on spinning gear. It is a Flouro-Copolymer blend and strong as they come. Use some KVD lure and line conditioner on it and you'll be amazed at this stuff. For pure Flouro, the best I have used is Sunline FC Sniper. I got it on ebay for a steal. It's pretty steep retail. BPS house brand is pretty good and so is Berkley 100%. I tried Vanish when it first came out and found it to be so bad, I returned it. Quote
Chris W Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 The bass pro shops XPS is very good fluorocarbon. It casts well has good abrasion resistance and will not break the bank. If you watch it they put it on sale for 25% off regularly. I know I am going to get blasted but the Vicious Fluorocarbon is not bad for the price but it is not good on a spinning reel it is too stiff. Quote
TheHammer84 Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I've never had a problem with Vanish or Transition, but Trilene 100% fluoro is better. Quote
rubba bubba Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Do a search here on Vanish - a lot of people, including myself, had problems with Vanish and have stopped. XPS is good and so apparently is the Berkely 100% fluoro. P-line fluoro is also very very good. Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 Vanish is trash man! I use 100% Trilene and BPS XPS and love both. The XPS is way stronger though. Quote

adclem Posted August 9, 2009 Posted August 9, 2009 I really like the BPS XPS fluorocarbon. It has been an outstanding line for me so far. Later, Quote
chatterspoon Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I have tried almost every flouro made and have the best luck with P-line 8lb 100% flouro. I just put a spool of Seagar INVIZ 8 lb on a new Catalyst I bought and so far am having good luck with it. It does not twist up like the Vanish and BPS flouro. I do use the KVD line conditioner and I believe it makes a big difference in more than one way. I will say that if you are using it on a spinning reel, it is very important that you place it on the spool correctly or it will loop up and be a huge headache. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I've brought trees up to the boat with 8lb Trilene Flouro and a Palomar knot. Quote
Poolie727 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 Seaguar Red Label is a great line and is affordable. I like the Seaguar InvisX and AbrazX too, but I've never had the Red Label fail on me. Quote
Super User S Hovanec Posted August 10, 2009 Super User Posted August 10, 2009 I used Vanish on 2 different occasions. The first time was 6# on a steelhead rod. I broke off every fish in the morning, then when the air temp got over 40*, I didn't break off another one. I stripped that line off as soon as I got home. What good is it if it breaks when cold. The second time, I was in a pinch and needed a spool of 8# for a tube rod. Being that it was years since my first Vanish experience, I tried it again. Serious line twist and just as brittle as the 6#, but it wasn't cold this time, it was 80*. Having said that, I've had good luck with Invizx in 6# and Halo in 6#, 8# and 10#. Currently I'm using Halo on my clear lake rods and have been experimenting with the new Floroclear co-poly in mist green. It seems to work in the clear water just as well as the Halo. Quote

I never had a knot problem...my problem was if it can't take two trips over a branche without breaking, then I don't want it. When I first tried it, I lost around 5 jigs, 2-3 tubes, a spook, and what I believe to be a nice fish, nothing huge, maybe 4-5 lbs, hooked up with a spook, she jumped about 10 yards out and slack line, no spook. Thefishy1 Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 I have used Trilene 100% Fluro since it came out but have recently switched to Triple Fish and so far it has performed just as well as Trilene, there are no stretch problems, I can feel everything, its still clear, and most importantly of all its cheaper and comes in 600 yd spools. But time will tell how much better/ or worse it is. Quote
aarogb Posted August 10, 2009 Posted August 10, 2009 You get what you pay for. For example, if Sunline cost around $20.00 it's gonna be a good line. On the other hand, Vanish is cheaper therefore it won't be as good as Sunline. You'll probably just have to try out a lot of different brands to see which you like best in your price range. Quote
