mrlitetackle Posted August 13, 2009 Posted August 13, 2009 I just noticed today when i was out that the cork grip on one of my rods was coming apart.... it is where the reel seat is located. the cork is in ring sections, and two of the sections are starting to slightly separate. i thought just some simple super glue could to the trick, but not sure if that will have an adverse effect on the cork. im sure someone here knows the right tool for the job. any info is appreciated. GoReds Posted August 14, 2009 Posted August 14, 2009 Not sure if this will help you, but I took these notes from a Field and Stream magazine on how to patch up cork handles 1. Sand a wine cork (220 thru 240 grit sand paper) to make a fine cork dust. About ½ teaspoon to fill 1 centimeter hole. 2. Mix powder and wood glue, enough to create smooth, dry consistency like cookie dough (should not be fluid like). 3. Use sharp pointed tool to clean out pitted areas. Fill them with the patch material. The filler will shrink when it dries, so repeat process to get the hole flush with the grip. 4. Once filler is drysand, wash, and then seal the cork. Hope this helps. Quote
Super User flechero Posted August 14, 2009 Super User Posted August 14, 2009 a picture really would be worth a thousand words here... depending on exactly what you have, there are a couple possibilities to repair. Quote

Agree with the need for a pic. But it sounds like the rings have shrunk and you have lost the between the rings. Good Luck & Tight Lines!!! Quote
