Casting into a swimming pool

I was testing out a new lure in my pool. I got to thinking would the pool chemicals have any negative effects on my line? Just a question that came to mind.

If UV rays and minerals that are natural in fresh water can degrade line over time I'm sure chlorine takes a toll on it.

If the line can't take a little chlorine, then it wasn't worth a darn in the first place.

ive tested many a lure in a pool before, and have never had any negative effects (on line or lure)...

it should be fine.

I do it all of the time to check out the action of various worm techniques. Not sure about any line damage, but the neighbors think I've lost it.

There was a post about this the other day and Reel Mechanic said that there should be no problems at all. I would have to agree as well that if your line can't take some chlorine then it wasn't very good line to begin with...I can't imagine the types of stuff in the water here in the CA Delta and I'll fish with the same line for a month before respool!

your talking something that takes years...pool water wont hurt your line or lures.the water in your pool is way more cleaner then the water in your lake and the water coming out of your tap,trust me ive tested what comes out of the tap...not good lol.

Probably no damage at all but if you're uncomfortable just run your spool under the hose for a bit just to ease your mind.

This is kinda off topic but I have a friend who has a pool that has turned green from lack of care and we stocked it with some bass and brim. We actually caught a bass out of it 5 months after putting the fish in

If your pool water is properly kept- don't worry about it.  With free chlorine at 2-3 ppm and a ph in the low to mid 7's , your tap water rinse is potentially more "damaging" than your pool water.  

I made the mistake of checking our tap water after having a time with the pool....  I no longer drink our tap water, as my pool is a much more balanced water than what comes from our taps!
