rapalafanatic Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 i was just wondering what the best baitcasting reel is for under 50 bucks is? Quote
Super User cart7t Posted August 11, 2009 Super User Posted August 11, 2009 A new baitcasting reel for under $50 that's the best? There isn't one. They're all chinese made and of fairly low quality. It really won't matter which brand you buy. Just pick one, it's a crap shoot. Quote
Super User .RM. Posted August 11, 2009 Super User Posted August 11, 2009 I agree 100% with cart7t. The Garcia® Round reel in C3 ($85.00), and older rounds are bottom of the budget price for quality BC reels. just my .02¢ again.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!! Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted August 11, 2009 Super User Posted August 11, 2009 double your price and you may find a decent one Quote
Super User Raul Posted August 11, 2009 Super User Posted August 11, 2009 They're all chinese made and of fairly low quality. It 's not because they are chinese made, it 's because the components are low quality. Quote
dmac14 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 For $20 more I have a Shimano CU-201 Bantam for sale in the flea market. I am sure many people would agree this is a great reel for a low price. Quote
War Party Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Abu Garcia Ambassadur reels are as low in quality that I'll stand behind. They are great reels for what they cost. Truly the Budweiser of fishing reels. Quote

uicdent11 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 If you are personally going to buy a $50 baitcaster in the near future then I would spend the extra and get dmac's curado. If you want to spend $80 then I would look for a Revo S or Citica on that bid and wait site. Quote
catchbig0bass Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 you can wait and get a more quality one however I have been pretty happy with my wally world pinnacle's that I picked up. I mainly picked them up to get into baitcasters and eventually like next season buy a high end one but these things work really well and cast really nice. I know I am probably going to get hammered for saying all of this but ive been really happy. The platinum plus is only 40$ too, worth a try. Quote
infamous512 Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 Abu garcia's black/silver max reels are pretty good under $50, which is good for the beginners. Quote
ChiCityBasser Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 You might want to try the Cabelas Prodigy which is made by Daiwa and on clearance at Cabelas for $60 Quote
steezy Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 i was just wondering what the best baitcasting reel is for under 50 bucks is? If you're just starting to use a baitcaster, get a BPS pro Qualifer. Its $99 but easiest reel to use and learn on. I bought one for my 15 yr old son and he mastered it in a few hours. Utilizes dual braking system, both centrifugal and magnetic for a very smooth cast with minimal chance of backlash. Plus for the first 30 days, BPS will take it back and refund the full price if you dont like it. http://www.basspro.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_-1_10001_102287_100001001_100000000_100001000_100-1-1 Comes in both 7.1 and 6.4 ratios and weighs only 8.8 oz. You might even be able to pick on up on ebay for close to $50. Quote

DINK WHISPERER Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 If you must get one in that price range, i would go with the Abu Garcia Silver Max. You really should save a bit more for the Revo S though! Quote
seyone Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 I would try to save a little bit more for a better reel or try and get lucky and find a used reel in good shape. Quote
shootermcbob Posted August 11, 2009 Posted August 11, 2009 actually, the instore price on the cabelas prodigy is 49.00. Very good reel for 50 fifty bucks. They are made for Cabelas by Daiwa. They are normally 99.99. Quote
The_Natural Posted August 12, 2009 Posted August 12, 2009 Prodigy; it's the old model Advantage I believe....It's in Cabelas bargain cave. Quote
Super User Muddy Posted August 12, 2009 Super User Posted August 12, 2009 Prodigy is a good way to go. I would also keep your eyes on our Flea Market, I have bought many Bait casters for between 35 and 60 used, all were in great condition and all but the one laying on the bottom of the lake are all still in use by those who have them Quote
