Just wondering what you guys think of my setup. I have a Quantum Accurist AC501PT on a Shakespeare Ugly Stik 6'6" 1 piece baitcasting rod with 12lb berkley mono and a Diawa baitcaster on a zebco 2 piece 5'6" rod with 12lb berkley mono. Haven't done much fishing with either of them, mostly spinning reels. trying to get into the baitcasters.

Yeah, the zebco rod i got from a bud because i didn't have a rod for that reel and my shimano rod had a long unhealthy life lol.

haha no not at all. I was the second owner and after my spinning reel got stuck in the seat(spinning rod also) i had to tear it apart sadly. I beat the crap out of it and it came back for more, but did also maintain it.

I fished for years with 1 spinning rod...a 6' Berkley Lightning rod with a Quantum spinning reel and 10lb Trilene.  You sound like you are set up to catch fish to me.  As you get the hang of that casting reel, and the fishing tackle bug bites you harder....you will start upgrading your equipment.

i have a ton of tackle for all varieties of fish. I've just kind of put my baitcasters to the side for now, mainly because of how large my ugly stik is and how closed in the spots i fish are. but now that i have a shorter rod with another baitcaster im eager to get it on the water. i don't fish with the brakes on and can set up the tension adjustment knob fine, but i need more time on the water. I'm having doubts about casting my #7 rapala floating, i can cast 1 #4 splitshot on the end of the string, but the rapala is making me nervous lol.

sounds perfect. my "first" set-up was a $20 5'6" eagleclaw rod and a used Abu blackmax reel. ive probably caught more fish on that set-up than my Sol/whatever rod its on today set-up.

Your setups sound good but I think you need to upgrade your rods. I'm not a big fan of the ugly stick either and I have the same Quantum Accurist mounted on a Cabelas XML 6'6" R&J rod with with Berkley Fireline 30# 12 Braid.  I got the rod when Cabelas was having a sale on them and paid $32 with shipping to the store.

I'll say this about ugly stiks - I really like mine for fishing crankbaits. I can get away with fluorocarbon line that does not stretch and is generally a no no for crankbaits for that reason. However when paired with the ugly stik it works well. You're crankbait rod needs to have some flex and be mostly made of fiberglass to keep from jerking hooks out. I seldom lose a fish crankbaiting with that rod.

That said I hate the ugly stik for anything else except for maybe spinnerbaits. It's just too limber for me. My favorite setup for now is a bill dance edition quantum reel on an all star 6'6" medium heavy rod. Very sensitive rod and still feels like a broom handle for big fish.

I'd ditch the 2 piece and get a berkley lightning rod at walmart. They're cheap yeah but not junk and still one of my favorites. I don't believe in having the most expensive stuff out there. Heck yeah it's fun to fish with but if I can find decent quality tackle without having to budget for it then I'm happy.

If you want to go higher end without breaking the bank then start buying quantum anything! I've never fished a quantum reel or rod I didn't like. The quantum torsion rod is really cool and the 1310 albeit ugly as sin is a beautiful casting reel even for light stuff

I will second clark on the Berkley lightning rod from wally world. Its really a great rod. I also tried the quantum torsion rod as well which was a decent rod but the lightning rod def stands out. Grab one of those and some nice 50# sonic braid and you will have a mint setup.
