Poor eyesight, need some suggestions for knots

Had a health problem earlier this year that resulted in losing sight in one eye. I lost all depth perception because of that. (Putting a cap on a pen is a challenge1 I use my fingers to guide it on.) Anyway, I used the Improved Clinch for virtually everything, but I'll you, getting the tag end through the 'loop' between the hook eye and twists is a real chore. Of course it gets worse as the line rating drops.

Anyone have a knot suggestion that can be tied with your eyes closed?

+1.  I can tie this one while night fishing without a light.  It's easy once you learn it.

I also have bad eyesight, i.e. astigmitisms, and a catoract in one eye. Seems my 3.75 reading glasses can no longer get the job done, and my depth preseption isn't all that great either, so now I tie a Palomar knot for 99.9% of all my knots. Once you learn it, it's easy.

Put your finger on top of the hook eye when you star wrapping the tag end around the main line.  By doing this, you will make the whole much bigger to bring the tag end back through because your finger is in there.

I don't know what this is called, but it works great and is super easy to tie without looking. And it works for allmost any bait. Hooks can be to light if you dont have a bait on them.

Stick the line through the eye and pull about a foot.

hold tag end in right hand and loop 1st 2 fingers over the main line.

the bait is now hanging in between

curl your 2 fingers and lay the tag end next to the main

the line is now making a full loop with bait hanging at bottom and the tag end is still in right hand.

now wrap the tag end around the outside of the loop 5 times and then pinch the tag end between the 2 fingers on left hand.

drop the curl from your fingers and pull the tag through the loop that was formed.

pull the tag end and main line at same time while pulling bait the other direction, that snugs the knot. now pull just the main and the bait , the knot will slide down and tighten.

once you are used to this , you can tie it by swirling the bait around the loop, pinch the tag and jerk it all in just a few seconds.

Thanks for all the great suggestions, I'll learn the Palomar this week. Also, I like the finger trick for the clinch, I'll see if these fat fingers of mine can do that as well.

I agree with the Palomar. Not only easy to tie but one of the best.

It sounds like you could use some prescription sunglasses with progressive lenses.  If you think the expense is too exorbitant, go with the palomar knot and the cheap readers as Muddy suggested.

I 'm pretty short sighted ( miopia and astigmatism on both eyes ) and as I get older it 's getting worse, can 't see squat without glasses  :-/, now I can 't see squat at close distance with glasses  >, so to tie a knot I have to take away my glasses and get line and hook real close to me eyes so I can see what I 'm doing.

Like the guys said, the palomar knot is the closest you can get to tying a knot without using too much eyesight.
