Swimbait/Big bait reel?

This is probably going to be my next purchase... What reels do you all use?, What gear ratios? and your thoughts.. I'm new to the whole swimbait game... and so far just thrown the ones under an oz but wanna try and step it up into the big boys.

I have a revo toro 50-HS for such baits and really like it.  Haven't got to use it much with work but from my experiences thus far, its a good purchase.  Offers everything of the larger round reels but with a familiar low profile design, just slightly larger.  I have small hands and to get the larger line capacity without the bulk of a round reel was the key for me.

How big do you mean?  Are you talking hardbaits like the 3:16 Hyper Herring, Wake Jr., or larger like the Real Deal or Armageddon?  The Curado 300 is a great swimbait reel but for most any of the larger swimbaits, but the BIG stuff I like the Calcutta 250DC or the Calcutta TE 300/400...

i have a REVO TORO 51 in 5.4:1 and this reel is excellent !!! i have been throwing HUDDS and the SPRO BBZ-1 8"  spooled with 25# P-LINE CXX and it holds plenty of line !! i get 60-70 yard casts with it . i am gonna be purchasing bigger baits here pretty soon , on the list is an ARMAGGEDON by 3:16 and the NATE BAITS EL GRANDE and NATE BAITS 11'' trout and maybe a 10'' stocker trout .

I haven't been real successful with my 4-6 inch hard baits...I have two jackal giron's, a BPS Zr9, and a full size True Tungsten... I think it has to do with the fact that the things are so freaking cool looking and i don't have the guts to fish them near the cover i need to to catch fish... I don't want to loose them... I think i Collect the high end hard baits more than i really fish them...

I was thinking about maybe a good round inshore reel like Daiwa's TD Luna, i've seen the guys on TT fish swimbaits with reels like this and it seems preety cool. I think Abu makes one too..

I have 3 daiwa lunas and I love them. They will cast the big baits miles and have the power to winch the big ones in.

For the baits ur talking about i would go a shimano 300 D/E. Or also if u want a good reel for a bargain go for a Cardiff. I use both and have been happy with both. I think people think they have to get a 400 sized reel to throw the big baits but personally I think a 300 size one is perfect.  8-)

i don't see how you guys fish those 200 size reels , if your lucky you might get 60-70 yards of 20-25 # line on those reels !! i had 20# p-line cxx spooled on my REVO SX ( holds alot more line than a Calcutta 200 series reel ) and i was spooling out on medium long casts . now that i have my REVO TORO , spooled with 25# cxx , i got plenty of line !! just was wondering ....

I'm experimenting with the reels I already have, but am starting with a St. Croix AC250. I'm unsure about the line. I was thinking 40# Fireline Tracer, will that work?

People use braid... but i have heard from some folks that ya know how when you cast braid some times it catches on it's self on the cast? then wham bam pop there goes your 70$ 2oz swim-bait into the nothingness.. I have also heard the same for floro due to it's weak knot strength being usually 80% of it's rated breaking strength... so i plan on using a really good mono at about 25# or so
