Brian_Reeves Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 I've used the Rat-L-Traps for years and I'm looking to get some lipless crankbaits that aren't Bill Lewis. I have my eye on the Cotton Cordell Super Spots, but I'm wanting some second opinions before I start swiping the mastercard. What other brands are good and how do they hold up to the Bill Lewis Traps? Quote
MattStrykul Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 I use both Bill Lewis, and Cotten Cordell traps. I would rate the Cotton Cordell just as high as Bill Lewis' traps, and I use them more. I have never had one that didn't run straight, and they fall nose first. I would say they're practically identical, but that's just me. Matt Strykul Quote
Other. Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 I have 2 of the Yo-Zuri Rattle-n-vibe but I have not had a chance to throw them yet. But they do have very good lure design and they look really neat. Yo-Zuri is a pretty good brand so I am sure there lipless crank bait is pretty decent. However I never threw it before so I could be wrong . Quote
Cory20 Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 I'm going to try the SPRO aruku shad this season. Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted December 24, 2007 Super User Posted December 24, 2007 The RatliN' Vibe is definitely "somethin' different" that you should pick up. I also like the LC LV-300 and LV-500Max. Quote
Cajun1977 Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 i personally like the bill lewis ones the best ,but i have some megabass ones that i can hear coming from a mile away ten feet under water and i use those exclusively for muddy water Quote
JigNBig Posted December 24, 2007 Posted December 24, 2007 The only lipless baits I use are YoZuri Rattle-n-Vibe. My favorite color is Gold/Black back Quote
Brad_Coovert Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 Cordell Spots are good baits. My personal favorite is a discontinued bleeding shad Excalibur color. The XCalibur XRT series of baits is good. They have a new One Knock model that should be a good bait. pros have been using old one knock spots for years and buy them off of eBay all the time. SPRO's Aruku Shad is a good bait. I use them quite a bit and they have a new, larger size coming that should work well. I plan on having a bunch of these for my Lake Fork trip in March. Lucky Craft has several great lipless cranks. I really like the LV0, LV200 and LV300N. They are unique baits and have caught me a bunch of fish in certain situations. The LV0 is a super shallow running bait. The LV300N has no rattles and the LV200 has a big brass clacker that makes a totally different noise. River2Sea makes a cool bait called the Twin Vibe that has two plase to hook your line to that makes the bait run different. Just a few to look at. Brad Quote
LCpointerKILLA Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 I have not had better luck with any, including LV-500 LV D10 and LV D7, than with the yo zuri rattlin vibe. It doesnt run as true as the LV 500, but I think it is way way louder and higher pitched. The hardcore drum also produces (way different niose than rattlin vibe). The spro aruku shad is also a great lipless crank. Quote
Super User T-rig Posted December 25, 2007 Super User Posted December 25, 2007 I really like the LC LV-500 and the megabass vibration x silent for clear water. This thing might be worth a try? http://cgi.ebay.com/GamaPro-SONIC-X90-Vibration-Lure-Pearl_W0QQitemZ290168120029QQihZ019QQcategoryZ7300QQrdZ1QQssPageNameZWD1VQQcmdZViewItem?_trksid=p1638.m118 Quote
Super User Marty Posted December 25, 2007 Super User Posted December 25, 2007 I've used Traps, Spots and Rattling Rapalas and haven't noticed differences in effectiveness. That doesn't mean there aren't differences, just none that were apparent to me. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted December 25, 2007 Posted December 25, 2007 I absolutely love the Yo Zuri Rattlin Vibe, another one that I discovered this year is the Strike King Red Eye Shad. I used the Cordell Spots a ton last year and liked them, but noticed that they swam sideways alot....while my Bill lewis traps did not. Quote

Super User Tin Posted December 25, 2007 Super User Posted December 25, 2007 Yozuri or the Red Eye Shad. Quote
Other. Posted December 26, 2007 Posted December 26, 2007 Has any one ever tried Uncle Bucks lipless crankbaits? They are the cheapest at BPS and I would like to stock up with a lot of colors and sizes for all conditions and this will hurt my pocket the least. Quote
mawilson Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 all the various trap style baits have their purpose and time to be thrown pick a couple of dif brands and purchase them in colors that are close then when your fishing and catching you can change up and will def find that 1 bait will out fish the others in almost the exact same color point in-tale fished a tournament and my partner threw an x-calibre in chrome black I threw every other trap style bait I owned in the same color he out fished me 8 to 1 and of course we didn't have another 1 in the boat MA Wilson Quote
mawilson Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 me and we were fan casting on a flat so no one was front seatin he had to cull and i took his rod and got 2 while he was cullin Quote
Cory20 Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Wow that is awesome, putting it on the list. Quote
Super User RoLo Posted December 28, 2007 Super User Posted December 28, 2007 The Rat-L-Trap is so cheap and effective that they make you feel guilty as though you're cheating on the Bait Monkey. It's real easy to pay more for a lipless crankbait, but it's not that easy to find a better one. Just like its predacessor the heddon sonic, the rat-l-trap is a year-round lure (In Florida at least). Every time I try a new lipless crankbait, I keep coming back to the Bill Lewis version. Roger Quote
Vyron Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 My favorite are: 1. LC LV-500Max 2. Yo Zuri Hardcore Drum Quote
rondef Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 I have had great luck this year using lipless crankbaits, The Rat-L-Traps work great. I have also had good luck with the BPS shad rattle trap, I bought the kit with 5 in it. Quote
BassFishingMachine Posted December 28, 2007 Posted December 28, 2007 Anyone try LC's Lipless crankbait with a lip on it?(http://www.***.com/descpageHDLLUCKY-LCLV70.html) It supposably says it is less likely to pick up weeds because the lip makes it run shallower (which would be perfect for the lakes im fishing cause there so darn shallow). Anyone give these a try with any success? Do they really run shallower then a normal Lipless Crank? Quote
Super User Gatorbassman Posted December 29, 2007 Super User Posted December 29, 2007 #1 Bill Lewis Rat-L-Trap#2 Cotton Cordell Hot Spot #3 Strike King Diamond Shad X2 I love lipless cranks. I went through my box last week and found out that I have over 80 of them with six different brands. I have caught fish with most of them. Quote
