Koop Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Your going to get a pretty even split between the guys who have 5+ set ups and the guys who fish with 1-4 set ups. Quote
MattinOK Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I'm really in the middle. Two combos take care of all my needs. A 6 1/2 ft. mh/f rod with baitcaster and 20 lb mono does: Cranks Lipless Cranks Topwater Spinner/Buzzbaits and Jigs My 7 ft. m spinning reel with 20lb braid does Soft plastics and anything to small for the bc. Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted July 28, 2009 Super User Posted July 28, 2009 Some of my rods pull double duty but for the most part they are technique specific. Quote
skno Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Hmmmmm I have technique specific rods and they all have a reel on them. But I do use them alot of different ways. I am leaning towards adjust the reel. Quote
jimmieO Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I've got a few setups but only 4 that I really like...so..i try to be technique specific, knowing that I will probably change a couple things throughout the day. Quote
BenoBreath Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I usually have four setups rigged & ready : 1. jig/worm rod 2. spinnerbait/buzzbait rod 3. crankbait/topwater rod 4. finesse plastics rod BB Quote
BASS2THEMAX Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I would drive myself crazy i think if i didn't have a rod and reel gor each lure ..i mean i get so bad to have three rods for each lure in three diffrent colors . granted i'm sponcered so the rods and reels come free but even to fish for fun i have to tske a bunch of rods and reels with me Quote
bigtimfish Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I have rigs set up for specific methods. 12 of them, all different sizes and weights of lures Quote
Super User RoLo Posted July 28, 2009 Super User Posted July 28, 2009 I own specific fishing outfit for different major tasks, but certainly not for every lure type (you cannot be serious) I already own about 40 to 50 fishing combos, but most of them have many twin brothers. If I needed four combo outfits for every lure type, I'd have to purchase another 40 to 50 outfits Roger Quote
Super User roadwarrior Posted July 28, 2009 Super User Posted July 28, 2009 I have technique specific rigs, but they handle a number of lures within a class. As far as making adjustments, once I have a reel "dialed in", it rarely gets any adjustment. 8-) Quote
Super User J Francho Posted July 28, 2009 Super User Posted July 28, 2009 You forgot "adjust thumb" and "adjust cast." I fish Diawa reels, so I generally adjust the spool tension for weight, and adjust the mag brakes for conditions, casting style, or distance. My thumb handles the rest. Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted July 28, 2009 Super User Posted July 28, 2009 I have six set ups, but I normally only use three of them. crankbait/spinnerbait heavy jig finesse jig carolina rig/heavy t-rig finesse t-rig ultralight Quote
JellyMan Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I have 2 rods and reels that I use. BPS Johnny Morris Signiature Series baitcaster 6:4:1 ratio, Shimano Carbomax 6'6 MH F -- spooled with 30lb braid and usually has a jig n trailer on it. I use this setup for fishing bottom in cover or in grass. Other is a BPS Johnny Morris Elite 6:4:1 ratio, 12lb Trilene XL, Team All Star 6'6 MH F.----This one is used for everything else. Swimming soft plastics, spinnerbaits, crank baits, and top waters. Then I just have a Quantum spinning reel and Lunker Stik rod I found on the shoreline of a lake with nobody around. I use that for saltwater and catfish. As far as adjusting the reel for heavier or lighter baits... I almost always have a big ole anaconda weitless on my JM Elite and doesnt need any adjustments. Once my reel is dialed in, anything heavier than an anaconda, sours gracefully through the sky like an eagle. Then hits the tree "S***!!! lol Quote
RhodyBass Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I rod set up for spinnerbaits and wakebaits and 1 for worm or lizard. Quote
TheHammer84 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I like to carry 6... Spinning rod Spinnerbait rod Crankbait Rod 7' Heavy rod w/ braid' 7' Heavy rod w/ fluoro Lipless crankbait rod on rivers, I'll add another spinning rod and drop one of the crankbait rods Quote
TommyBass Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I have 6 setups.... but I generally vary what is on each one, its more for time saving then for lure prference. I would say in most instances two setups will cover most of your needs. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted July 28, 2009 Super User Posted July 28, 2009 I think the majority of people here, unless new to fishing, are going to have a rod setup for certain techniques that they can go to and change without adjustment. That could mean just two rods 1-t-rigs and jigs and 1-hardbaits (spinnerbaits, cranks, topwater). You can have just two rods and they could be technique specific, depending on what you fish. I'm not gonna have a rod for each color and size of bait but I have a shallow crank/jerkbait rod, deep crank rod, small t-rig rod, larger t-rig and jig rod, spinnerbait rod, tube rod, swimbait rod, and flipping stick. Pantera61 Posted July 28, 2009 Author Posted July 28, 2009 I have technique specific rigs, but they handle a number of lures within a class. As far as making adjustments, once I have a reel "dialed in", it rarely gets any adjustment. 8-) Is the adjustment by bait, weight of bait or fishing condition? Sorry for the ultra-specifics but this is the springboard answer. Thanks Quote

Sorry for the ultra-specifics but this is the springboard answer. Thanks Dial it in with a "highly used" bait. Favorite worm or whatever. Once you fine tune your reel for that specific bait, anything similar weight or heavier should work just fine. Only thing would be a lighter bait than you normaly use. THEN you would need to drop the spool tension down just a bit. Quote
BASS2THEMAX Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 I WAS NOT DEPRIVED AS A CHILD I JUST WANT A ROD AND REEL FOR EACH LURE AND SOMETIMES THREE OR FOR FOR EACH LURE OF DIFFRENT COLLORS OR I RUN THREE RODS WITH THE SAME CRANKBAIT ON THEM EACH IN DIFFRENT DEPTH . SPINNERBAITS IN DIFFRENT WEIGHTS FOR EACH DEPTH . EACH MIN I SPEND SEARCHING FOR BAITS AND RE TIEING IS A MIN THAT MY LURE ISNT IN THE WATER AND IM NOT ABLE TO CATCH A FISH. IN A TOURNEY THAT GET IMPORTANT IM SURE I DONT HAVE TO TELL YOU GYES THAT . FOR THE GYES THAAT CANT AFFORD THAT MANY RODS AND REELS I WOULD SUGGEST SAVING YOUR MONEY AND GET AS MANY AS YOU CAN IM SURE EVERYONE WILL AGREE THE TIME YOU SAVE I WORTH THE 500 DOLLARSIS PRITTY CHEEP FOR A NEW ROD TO SAVE YOU TIME Quote
mrlitetackle Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 i use spinning gear...... no "dialing in" found here........ ....and love light tackle, so 1 or 2 setups do me just fine on every outing that i have!!!!! (one light, and one REALLY light).... and, yes, i even through large swimbaits on them..... call me crazy,,,,,, but its fun!!!! Quote
I.rar Posted August 1, 2009 Posted August 1, 2009 im down to two setups. on my light/UL spinning rig , i throw anything under 1/4oz. 1/4oz+ goes to the M action baitcaster. Quote
