Need your input

Hey guys I'm looking to get a new soft plastics rod. I am a big fan of st. croix and shimano reels. I already own a curado for crankin so I am looking to try the citica 200 e. I hear its a great reel for the price and don't wanna spend to much. What rod do you think would be best to pair it with, the Mojo bass or an Avid. The mojo bass is considerably cheaper but I hear the avid is amazing. What do you guys think would be the best for soft plastics and for the money? Thanks

I recommend a Powell Max 705C for plastics and jigs. For $139.00, it cannot be beat IMO! Sensitivity is amazing and it has the strength to match! I found the Mojo is not a good choice for plastics because it is not that sensitive. If you will pick out of the two i would get the Avid.

The Avid is a great rod, and IMO much more sensitive compared to the the Mojo. I say this because I have owned Premiers, which I believe, is the same blank that the Mojo uses (SCII). Not knocking the Mojo at all, great rod for it's price point and a lot of members on this forum have great success with them. However, I am a firm believer that sensitivity is key when using soft plastics, so I recommend getting the most sensitive rod you can afford.

i have my citica on a falcon bucoo($109)..love that setup,but id go with what you can afford,and what feels good/right in your hands, i like both the avid and mojo.

This is a shot in the dark, but take a look at Lamiglas. They make awesome rods and they are truly underrated, meaning most folks don't consider them outside of the west coast.

Competitor or Certified Pro, or their new split grip line. Any of these three are bound to serve you well and great bang for the buck. If not, go Crucial.

Why not?  I've got a Citica E on a $400 rod.

A $100 reel with a $170 Avid will catch the same amount of fish as a $200 reel on a $170 Avid. The Citica and Revo S are great reels at their respected price point.

Similar to Burley, I will be putting my Revo S on a GLX once it gets here.

I guess I never really answered the question, but I would favor the Avid. Isn't there a 6'6MH for sale in the flea market? Might give that a try.

The citica, and revo s are the same reel, they are entry level reels that anyone on a tight budget can afford. Why would you spend a ton of money on a loomis then disgrace it with a cheap reel?

Because it is the rod that catches the fish. I have several high(er) end reels that could work, but I like the feel of the revo on heavier action rods. Maybe one day I will put another D7 on it, but for now the Revo will work perfectly for me. Just a preference I guess. If the Revo will work, then why sell it to get a more expensive reel?

In my case I would rather have a high end rod because that is the most important aspect of the rod and reel combo. Your reel can't snap but your rod can. You can't feel the sensitivty of the bait with ur reel, its with your rod. I don't mind at all putting a citica on a higher end rod, to me it doesn't matter that much. By the way I will probably end up getting another curado to put on it, as long as I make that money in the next 2 weeks. which will be easy.

The citica e is a great entry level reel. Don't  see many pro's using it.

You don't see very many pros using any shimano reels actually. They don't seem to need the advertisement.

The Citica E is a great reel with great features at a great price. What's your logic behind needing a reel that costs the same or more as the rod it's to be mounted on? Hopefully it's something other than just matching price tags  :-?
