catchbig0bass Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 What do you guys think of it. I just picked up some and spooled it up on my baitcast setup 50#. I am switching from powerpro and so far I really like it. Tying seems easier and casting is incredible much farther and smoother than pp. Want to know what to expect from someone whom has used it for a lengthy period of time. Unfortunatly I needed line asap and all the local stores don't carry fireline braid which is what I really wanted. Quote
catchbig0bass Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 Take it no one has any thoughts or experience with it? Quote
NHfroggin Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 I use 40# on one of my set ups, i haven't had any problems with it. i Spooled it the beginning of this season and the color hasn't faded at all. I want to try the fire line braid also. -matt- Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted July 24, 2009 Super User Posted July 24, 2009 In the package with the fingernail test, it seemed less desireable to me than the former Superbraid which I like. It seemed more like Power Pro which I don't like. Quote
=Matt 5.0= Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I've been a diehard Powerpro guy for a while. I bought the Stren Sonic braid for my light tackle striper setup. The 30lb is fantastic. I'm switching over next year. All my braid setups will be Stren. Quote
sweet daddy Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I like spectra braid, this cheap knock off stuff that gets re branded each year sucks. Is this a combination of fireline, microfuse, and spiderwire ultra? I like to do things the right way, but hey if you can pull it off with half &%$ line go right ahead. Quote
Furbit Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I have to admit that after using Super Braid for years, Sonic was giving me fits on and off. but now that I have gotten use to this line, I am really starting to like it. Still will not say that it is better then Super was, but it's growing on me. Quote
michaelkim_9582 Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 its the only braid I use now. I've tried the fireline and I personally like the sonic braid much better. Its noticibly smoother, and casts alot farther. Quote
Super User South FLA Posted July 25, 2009 Super User Posted July 25, 2009 I have to admit that after using Super Braid for years, Sonic was giving me fits on and off. but now that I have gotten use to this line, I am really starting to like it. Still will not say that it is better then Super was, but it's growing on me. Super Braid was my favorite until it was discountinued! So I switched to Samurai braid, good....I mean great braid. I want to try McCoy's new braid though. Powerpro is OK in my book, but their are better choices than Sonic, Suffix is another that comes to mind, but I've had problems with fading, not like it matters though. Quote
nashua fisherman Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 weve been using it for over a year with our spinning reals and love it. we have never lost a fish from the line breaking. we fish alot of pads and milfoil and it would actualy straighten the hook before the line broke if we got snaged. we tried fireline before but like this better. we always use swivels and have only had a couple issues with line twist tangles. bass wrangler569 Posted July 25, 2009 Posted July 25, 2009 I was out of town at a tournament a couple weeks ago and I needed some braid. All walmart had was stren sonic so I picked some up. I won't be changing from power pro any time soon but it does handle very well and it seems a bit more user friendly than pp. Quote
repper Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 i've not tried the Stren braid, but i use Suffix braid on many of my reels, and i see no reason to try anything else. Suffix braid really has been great for me. i use it for all applications except for wacky senkos, for which i use flurocarbon. i use uni to uni knots to add leaders where required and use Suffix braid without any leaders for frogin, and sometimes for flippin and pithin. if you hve not tried Suffix, give a try. Quitlimpin Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I had some spooled up for a few trips on a Revo SX. It handles ok and casts great. I can't quite put my finger on why, but I'll stick with Suffix/PP. Maybe it's that it just doesn't feel as tough.... Quote
