Super User skunked_again Posted July 28, 2009 Super User Posted July 28, 2009 im trying to extend the top grip on my Mojo rod. ive tried building up the blank below the grip with tape but it starts to slip and fall off after a few hours of use. any ideas on gluing cork and molding it on the blank below the grip? OIFBasser Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 This sounds stupid, but if you want to make it fatter, you could buy the padding you put on pipes to keep from freezing on the handle and wrap that with grip tape. Or pick up the no skid grip tape, and the wrap it with the grips fom BPS. Quote
andamtoft Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 you can try tennis handle re-grip. I think it would help you. it might be the same as the bps rod wrap but it might be cheaper, but im not sure. just a suggestion Quote
Super User skunked_again Posted July 28, 2009 Author Super User Posted July 28, 2009 not trying to make the grip fatter. im trying to make the grip longer. the only thing grip tape from BPS did was make the blank/cork sticky when the tape failed. i was hoping someone had rebuilt a grip and had an idea. Super User Big Bait Fishing Posted July 28, 2009 Super User Posted July 28, 2009 try posting this topic in " tacklemaking " , you might get better results (suggestions and answers ) Quote
bass wrangler569 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 They only way that I've seen this done is by cutting off the buttcap, inserting and epoxying an apropriate diameter dowel rod about inch inside the blank, then reem cork rings to fit the dowel rod and epoxy them on, then re-epoxy the butt cap. This is a pain to do and it can be hit or miss. Why do you want to extend the grip anyway? Quote
Super User .RM. Posted July 28, 2009 Super User Posted July 28, 2009 Doesn't make sense, sell the rod and have one of the many builders build that kind of rod properly for you..... But if you must mess up a beautiful rod... If the area coming out of the reel seat is what your wanting to mod then you going to have to buy up enough cork rings to extend the length. Then you can either remove the fighting butt section and ream the cork to fit the blank in that area, and slide each epoxied cork ring into place and clamp then shape when cure. OR you can take each cork ring ream each to fit the blank dia in the area, cut each in half epoxy to blank clamp well, let cure and re-shape. Either way you will void any kind of warranty on the rod.... Good Luck & Tight Lines!!!! Quote
Super User flechero Posted July 28, 2009 Super User Posted July 28, 2009 Doesn't make sense, sell the rod and have one of the many builders build that kind of rod properly for you..... That's the best route. Or see if you can buy a rod with a longer grip on it, some of the other models/makes have different grip configurations. Why do you want to extend the grip anyway? comfort, balance, leverage or casting control/distance. Quote
Stasher1 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Why not sell it and buy a Premier in the same length/action? Quote

Why not contact St.Croix and maybe upgrade to a more suitable grip style rod. Sounds to me like the split grip (grips all the same) style rods don't fit your casting/grip. This is one of those instances were custom fitted is what custom is all about... Quote
