NOVA Angler Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I just spooled one of my jig rods with 50lb Fireline Braid and it is night and day difference from Power Pro. It casts like a dream! Thanks everyone for the recommendation. I still have Power Pro on my flipping stick so I probably wont' change it since I haven't had any issues with it for that purpose. However Power Pro will never see another one of my reels that actually requires casting. Fireline braid = great stuff Quote
dmac14 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I agree its on my frog rod and its great, I think dodgeguy was the one who turned me onto it and it has been well to me. Quote
TheHammer84 Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 good to hear...I just ordered some 40# Tracer from TW, should get it Monday Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I agree its on my frog rod and its great, I think dodgeguy was the one who turned me onto it and it has been well to me. That darn dodgeguy was the one who put me onto it as well! I love the stuff though! Quote

mrlitetackle Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 i might have to give it a try when i need some new line...... (that wont be for quite a while though) until then, my suffix braid has given me no breakoffs, good casting, and definetly no complaints...... i love the stuff!! Quote
Super User dodgeguy Posted July 19, 2009 Super User Posted July 19, 2009 look at what i started!!!thanks guys!!!i hope all you braid users give it a shot and come into the modern world.it is the best braid out there. Quote
Dave T. Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I got a spool of the 15/4 for one of my smallmouth rods. Used it on two outings so far, and it seems to working nicely. Quote
Super User Chris at Tech Posted July 19, 2009 Super User Posted July 19, 2009 I'd try it, but I just wish they'd give you a "normal amount" on a spool instead of the 110 yds they currently have. Quote
adclem Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 I really like the Fireline braid much better then Power Pro. Just don't like the way it turns my thumb green.lol Later, Quote
Super User Wayne P. Posted July 19, 2009 Super User Posted July 19, 2009 Chris at Tech, put 55 yards of it on two reels, or 55 yd on one reel and have 55 yds of spare. You will never cast or have a bass pull off that much line. Use mono backing to get the braid to fill the spool properly. Then you will have two rigs with line that will last for years. Braids that are packaged with 150 yards can be used on three reels with 50 yds on each. Still plenty for bass fishing. I have some 300 yards spools of braid- guess what------6 reels or 1 reel and 5 replacements. Another advantage of superline is when the line fades or looks worn, reverse it on the reel spool so it will last twice as long. Quote

ChiCityBasser Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I have 20# on one of my spinning reels and it does cast great and the guys at Cabelas put the mono backing on and spooled it up. Didn't think of spiitting it onto 2 spools with 55yds each plus the mono but now I will remember to have it done next time. Quote
michaelkim_9582 Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 The fireline is good, but I prefer stren glidecoat braid alot better. I can say that it's alot smoother. Quote
umahunter Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 maybe i got a bad spool i just switched back to power pro from fire line the power pro casts better to me. ive had more wind knots with fireline than any braid the fire line dug just as much as any other line even after a small 1 pound fish the line would dig and try to back cast Quote
tracker12 Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I hate the wind knots. I switched back to Mono on my Frog rod because of them. After fishing with mono again a few times looks like I am going to have to live with the wind knots. Hook set just isn't the same when the casts get long. Quote

However with my swim jig rod, the Fireline has served me much better. I'm sure part of it has to do with your setup and what your casting. Quote
