andamtoft Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Getting one of these for spinner baits... which would you all recommend? Quote
DINK WHISPERER Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 Definitely the STX man! The premier is an overpriced hunk a crap IMO! The drag stinks, not nearly as smooth as the STX and it doesn't cast as far either! Quote
Super User Micro Posted July 27, 2009 Super User Posted July 27, 2009 Wait 'til the new Premier is available. I'm betting it will be a fantastic reel. Quote

The drag stinks, not nearly as smooth as the STX and it doesn't cast as far either! Wow, would never have thought that. I was considering getting one of these. Glad I haven't ordered one yet. Maybe I will get another STX for my son. He really needs something built like a tank. Later, Quote

Super User Bassn Blvd Posted July 27, 2009 Super User Posted July 27, 2009 I have the premier and it cast as far as you could possibly want it to cast. It's very smooth and super lite. Quote
OIFBasser Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I had a premier for 5 days, I took it out and the next day traded it to my buddy for his STX. Quote
HotIce Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I have 2 premiers and a STX. Honestly I dont see much difference between the two in casting distance. As for the drag the STX obviously has more but I've yet to be in a situation with the premier where I felt I needed more. IMO It comes down to how concerned you are about the weight of your rig and your spending money. Quote
pk Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I had a Premier first and it was one of the early models. The STXs I had were just as good if not better. I'd buy neither. Quote
fatmanslim247 Posted July 27, 2009 Posted July 27, 2009 I would pick the premier just because of the weight factor, my premier matched up with a carrot stick... equals pure balance. I love my stx but i can tell the difference when I pick up the the stx, which is also mated with a carrot. Quote
infamous512 Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I've purchased stx few weeks ago and I loved it. However, after seeing new/upgraded revos lineup from ICAST '09 video, I returned my stx. Premier & stx will have dual brake systems and premier is added with more bearings(hpcr) than previous, 9+1rb. I know stx has stainless steel bearings but is hpcr bearings really better? By reading from above posts, more people favor stx over premier. Isn't the premier pretty mush the same as stx but lighter, hpcr bearings w/ less drag power? If the price was same b/w these two reels, which one will you pick? I can't decide which one(upgraded premier or stx) to order. I will truly appreciate if anyone can share more with your experiences or an advice!!! Quote
Uncle Leo Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I own both and both are rock solid. The Premier seems to cast a bit better. I have found that sometimes adding extra bearings does not necessarily make a reel cast better. Actually the only bearings that come into play during the cast are the spool bearings. For the most part additional bearings make for a smoother retrieve. Honestly when you hook into a hog do you pay attention to smoothness. Both reels have their own attributes. As far as I am concerned either will do the job. Maybe consider if the lighter weight is more important, if not you can save some money as the STX is a fine reel. If you want a lighter weight reel the Premier is for you. Quote
