tritz18 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 What gear ratio do you guys prefer for fishing soft plastics?? thanks Quote
Uncle Leo Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 7.1-1 for me the faster the better. I will throw into some real junk and I want to get them out fast. Quote
JellyMan Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I like to slow roll my softies. I choose a 6:4:1. With that ratio I can slow roll em and then burn it back to the boat around water I'm not fishing. I only fish shorelines and cover. Quote
Super User KYntucky Warmouth Posted July 28, 2009 Super User Posted July 28, 2009 I use either a 6.3:1 (smaller t-rigs in more open water) or a 7.1:1(Larger baits in cover), oh and 5.8:1 (tubes) Quote

tritz18 Posted July 28, 2009 Author Posted July 28, 2009 What gear ratio do you guys prefer for fishing soft plastics?? thanks For which technique ? :-? well I mainly fish senko type baits, grubs, creature baits, ribbontail worms. Either t-rigged with small bullet weights or weightless. I won't be fishing into heavy cover with this reel. Quote

TommyBass Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Any higher end, 6.4 or 7.1... there is nothing worse than working a bait slow only to pick up your rod and have the fish flying at you and your reel not keeping up. Quote
Koop Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 I like a 6.x.1 for soft plastic general purpose and a 7.x:1 for frogs / flipping Quote
Bronzefly Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 7:1 - I want to get it back fast and present the bait again... whether pitching or casting! Quote
tritz18 Posted July 28, 2009 Author Posted July 28, 2009 thanks guys, I love the new curado and I want another so I think I will get the 7:1 gear ratio curado for my soft plastics. what do you think? Quote
uicdent11 Posted July 28, 2009 Posted July 28, 2009 Anything that picks up 30+ in./turn works well for me. That Curado would be a great choice. The only reason I don't have one is the LH model rubs my big fat hands raw after an hour or two. It will make a great plastics reel. Quote

Great choice - a nice cleaning out of excess grease and set of quality ABEC 7 spool bearings will help expand the ability to present some of the lighter baits as well... Quote
tritz18 Posted July 28, 2009 Author Posted July 28, 2009 Well I have one curado for crankin already and its the perfect reel. Can't wait to throw some plastics with it. Thanks again guys for assuring me on my decision. Quote
pk Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I just got a Curado E7. I'm using it for small plastics and jigs. Love being able to keep total control of the slack line when moving the bait with the rod. Quote
sweet daddy Posted July 29, 2009 Posted July 29, 2009 I like the six speed reels. Plenty of power, and speed when you need it. Quote
