I fish thick lily pads. My baitcaster is spooled with 20# braid which so far gets the fish out a majority of the time. The problem is that braid destroys the action of the bait because it floats. In the wind, forget it, the braid is like a sail. I used to use a heavier mono, but lost way too many in the thick. Would a fluorocarbon work better, or is there a braid that doesn't float so much? thanks for your help.

I use 25 lb. Berkley Vanish flourocarbon.

i flip heavy pads with 65# braid with no issues whatsoever! Even with only an 1/8oz weight sometimes and 20MPH winds!

I use 30lb Power Pro braid for weeds and cover. I would go heavier tho.

40lb and up just for extra security. :)

I need a baitcaster to flip heavy weeds lol.  You know this I don't have a rod and reel to use heavy duty line yet.  You will do O.K. on jigs.

This is Lacassine Wildlife Refuge it's a shallow marsh located in Southwest Louisiana; it holds bass up to 12 lbs. Line of choice Berkley Big Game 15# Mean Green, what you will have to do on occasion is go get em. Most of the time I can play a bass through the pads but if I get wrapped I simply flip the trolling motor on high.

I have exited the boat on occasion :)

I would be more inclined to punch through the pads, and for that I would use 50 to 65# power pro. For the frog setup I would use the highest pound test mono you can get away with.
